Job Description

Responsibilities

UWCSEA Dover is seeking a qualified and experienced part-time Teacher of High School Chi ne se, with strong experience in teaching Chi ne se A / First Language Chi ne se, ideally from January 2027.

The appointee will teach High School First Language and Language Acquisition Chi ne se. UWCSEA offers both IB Chi ne se A: Language and Literature and IB Chi ne se B in Grades 11 and 12. In Grades 9 and 10, we offer our own UWCSEA Chi ne se courses for First, Second and Foreign Languages.

The successful candidate will have strong experience teaching Chi ne se at High School level, with particular expertise in First Language Chi ne se and preferably experience teaching IB Chi ne se A: Language and Literature. We are looking for a collaborative practitioner who can contribute to the continued development of Chi ne se A teaching and help build capacity within the department.

The appointee will join a large and highly collaborative Chi ne se department, as well as a broader Languages team that includes Fre nch, Spa nish, Ko rean, Ger man, Dut ch and Japa nese teachers.

Please note that to apply for this role, you must have an internationally recognised teaching qualification and reside in Singapore. Availability from January 2027 is preferred; however, a later start may be considered for a suitable candidate.

Main Responsibilities

  • Teachers should be willing to contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the Chi ne se and broader High School teams.
  • Teachers should construct learning experiences that challenge students, support the diversity of learners in each classroom and demonstrate a strong commitment to concept-based teaching and learning.
  • Teachers should ensure assessments support ongoing learning and provide timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments.
  • Teachers should demonstrate effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning.
  • Teachers should keep parents informed about the learning of their children, and be proactive in communication with parents.

Expectations and Standards

  • Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards

Person Specifications

  • A good degree and a recognised teaching qualification or certification are expected.
  • Experience of teaching IBDP Chi ne se A and B would be highly desirable, and experience or interest in curriculum development is advantageous.
  • The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute to the development of Chi ne se A teaching capacity within the department would be highly valued.
  • Applicants should be enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural environment.
  • Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning
  • Pastoral expectations include the leadership of a mentor group unless the teacher is exempted due to other responsibilities
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
  • Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
