Be Open To Change

We all know someone who wants to get fit but keeps eating Ramly and mamak and refuses to go to the gym. What about the friend who says they want a solid relationship but keeps dating emotionally unstable or unavailable people? If we want to make a change, we must be prepared to work for it. Thinking of change is not enough to make the change. The pain of never changing has to be so strong that you have no choice but to take action. To motivate yourself, think about the consequences of not changing vs. the excuses you have not to.

Create Your Own Circumstances

We all have our own stories that make us who and what we are. Sometimes these stories become excuses we make to prevent us from taking necessary action to make the changes we need in life. We can easily blame our past, our family, our clients, or our spouses for not supporting our vision, but if we want to make a change, we need to take ownership of our circumstances and mindfully change it. Yes, there are things out of our control, but there are also things we can control. To overcome your circumstances, you must look for opportunities to take responsibility and make the change.

Change Your Mindset

Mindset directs our behavior. To create change, we need to become aware of the actions we take daily and change our thinking and perspective. Trying to do it overnight is the most common reason we fail to permanently change our mindset. First, we need to change our thinking -- we need to prove to ourselves that our current behavior is negative for us, and we need to be positive and disciplined to really make a change. Remember, change happens one day at a time. Eventually, you’ll create a new pattern of behavior to replace the old one. When you strengthen your mindset, you encourage yourself to take action.

Control How You React

Every new year is the same old “new year, new me” story, but did you know on average people give up within a month? Change is not easy, just like everything in life you will meet failure. How you react to these failures will determine how much you succeed later on. You must understand that it takes time to truly create meaningful change both in your life and your business. Think of a time when you have met a challenge and reacted negatively. Was it helpful in solving your problem? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. You must face every failure positively and take this as an opportunity to learn an invaluable lesson.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Imagine a businessman from 30 years ago and first hearing about the internet and decided “I donnid to change lah. This computer thing useless, just for kids.” That businessman is most likely not doing his business anymore today. The point is, you will reach new heights in your success if your motivation to succeed is more than your desire to stay in your comfort zone. Growth only happens if you go out of it.

Know That Change Starts With Yourself

Believe that change is possible, and always keep that vision in mind to push you forward when times get tough. If you don’t have that faith, and if you can’t see the finish line, you will most likely give up. Before expecting change from others, you have to know that change will always start internally, with yourself, like the Michael Jackson song “Man In The Mirror.”
