Position Overview
A Quantity Surveyor (QS) plays a key role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects. The role involves cost estimation, budget control, contract administration, risk management and ensuring that construction projects are delivered within budget and in compliance with legal and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Planning & Estimation
Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ) and cost plans at various project stages.
Analyze architectural and engineering drawings to determine project material, labor and equipment requirements.
Conduct feasibility studies and advise on cost-effective building solutions.
2. Tendering & Procurement
Prepare quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) from architectural/structural drawings.
Develop cost estimates and tender pricing for materials, labor, plant and subcontract works.
Compile tender documents and assist with submission.
Source, evaluate, and compare supplier/subcontractor quotations.
Support value engineering to improve cost-efficiency.
Identify risk items, exclusions, and commercial assumptions for tenders.
Coordinate with design, technical, and procurement teams.
Maintain cost databases and assist with commercial reporting.
3. Contract Administration
Draft, review and manage construction contracts and amendments.
Monitor compliance with contract terms, including quality, timelines and cost benchmarks.
Handle contractual claims, variations, and dispute resolution processes.
4. Cost Control & Financial Management
Track project costs and maintain up-to-date cost reports.
Forecast final project costs and implement measures to ensure budget adherence.
Monitor cash flow and prepare interim and final payment certificates.
5. Project Monitoring & Reporting
Conduct site visits to verify progress and ensure resource usage aligns with project plans.
Prepare regular progress, cost, and performance reports for senior management and stakeholders.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects and clients to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
3-4 years’ experience in quantity surveying, estimation or tender pricing in construction.
Familiarity with BOQs, cost estimation tools/software (e.g., Excel)
Good understanding of construction methods, materials and contract basics.
Strong numerical, communication, and organizational skills.
Good communication skills in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken as the role involves regular communication with China-based customers.
