We support all merchants, between tiny merchants (like a warung or hawker) and big, international franchises. Merchants have a lot of different businesses: restaurants, supermarkets, fashion, online stores, people who sell on social media, and many more. We level the playing field between tiny merchants and big merchants by giving them the same tools to grow their business, to attract customers, to become more efficient and be able to concentrate on what they do best inside one GrabMerchant App and Portal. Get to Know the Role

We are seeking talented & passionate engineers to join our team, you will have opportunities to work on multiple backend services as well as participating in merchant immersions, talking directly to the end-users, identifying their challenges and how we can help them in their work life. It is very important that our team members to identify problems, and have the right mindset and skill sets to solve them.

You will be reporting to the Software Engineering Manager II and will be based onsite at our Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• End-to-End System Ownership: Independently designs, builds, and operates high-quality software systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, maintainable, and rigorously tested.
• Architectural & Operational Excellence: Applies advanced architectural patterns and infrastructure best practices, while maintaining accountability for post-deployment monitoring and system health.
• Strategic Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, actively contributing to the entire product lifecycle from initial design to final rollout.
• Process Optimization: Proactively identifies and implements improvements to team workflows and engineering processes to enhance overall efficiency and delivery.
• Mentorship & Team Growth: Acts as a senior by mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You need to have solid software engineering and coding skills. Specifically, we're looking for someone with at least 5 years of experience in a backend language like Go, Scala, Java or C++.
• You understand building microservices architecture and a good grasp of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and message queuing systems. Your knowledge in these areas will develop our back-end services.
• Experience with relational databases, such as MySQL, is important. You'll work with databases so familiarity with how they work and how to work with them is important.
• You have knowledge of software development best practices. This includes version control (specifically Git), unit testing, and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• You should have experience deploying code in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
• You may help build front-end applications. This means you need to be comfortable working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Your skills in these areas will directly contribute to the enhancement of our user interfaces.
