About the job
Kentasu is a healthcare AI startup from Japan. We build Kentasu RCM, a platform that helps private clinics and hospitals in Malaysia submit insurance claims faster, track payments and get paid on time. In Malaysia, clinics still spend hours every day preparing panel claims across many TPA and insurer portals, while payments often arrive late. We are changing that, starting with GP clinics. Kentasu Sdn. Bhd. is based in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, and is part of Kentasu Inc. (Tokyo, Japan).
The Role
We are hiring our first engineer, the Founding Engineer, to build back-office automation for clinics and hospitals in Malaysia. You will own problems end to end: from hearing what a clinic needs, through spec and implementation, to running it in production. You work directly with the CTO and the CEO, and you report to the CTO.
This is an early-stage role. You would join as one of the founding members of the team. Priorities change as the business changes, and your assignment will shift with them: you may take over an existing product, start a new one, or both. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with that kind of flexibility.
What You Will Do
- Talk directly to clinic owners and staff, in English and Bahasa Malaysia, to understand their back-office workflow
- Decide what to build, and what not to build, based on what clinics need and the numbers behind it
- Design, build and ship features on our existing stack, using AI tools heavily and taking responsibility for what they produce
- Run what you ship: monitoring, fixing what breaks, going back to the clinic to check it works
- Propose what your area should do next, and why
- Bring product insights back to the team: what clinics struggle with, which systems they use, why a feature lands or doesn't
What We Are Looking For
- Malaysian citizen, based in the Klang Valley and able to visit clinics when needed
- 5+ years building software, including taking products from an unwritten spec to production and running them there, more than once
- Experience talking to customers yourself and cutting the requirements yourself
- Fluent with AI coding tools: you decide what to hand to AI, you verify what it produces, and you know when not to use it
- Self-driven: you don't wait for task assignments; you bring the problem, the options and your recommendation
- Comfortable with change and hands-on work in a startup where the rules are still being written
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (Japanese language is not required)
Nice to Have
- Experience in healthcare, insurance or other regulated back-office domains
- Experience at a clinic management system vendor, TPA or insurer
- Experience as an early engineer at a startup
- Mandarin or Cantonese
What We Offer
- Monthly fee: RM 10,000 – 15,000 (based on experience / negotiable)
- Company-issued MacBook; travel for clinic visits reimbursed; remote-first
- An early-stage environment where the way we work is still being shaped. You would help shape it
- A front-row seat in building a healthcare AI startup in Southeast Asia, with wide discretion over your own area
How to Apply
Apply via LinkedIn with your CV. In your application, please include two short notes:
- One thing you built that is running in production: what it does, what broke after launch, and what you changed
- One way you use AI in your work that you think is unusual — something most engineers around you don't do
A few sentences each is enough. We will go into detail in the interview, so there is no need to write a long explanation here.
