What You Will Do
At SPL, you are an integral part of our team - driving meaningful projects and witnessing the tangible difference your work makes. You will join as a Database Engineer to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of databases across cloud environments. You will manage daily operations, optimize database performance, respond to incidents, and support releases to maintain smooth and secure database services.
Key Tasks you will be involved in
Database Administration & Operations
- Administer, configure, and maintain databases across platforms (DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake).
- Support OLTP and OLAP workloads; ensure availability, stability, and optimal performance.
- Conduct routine health checks, monitoring, and proactive issue detection.
Performance Tuning & Optimisation
- Tune queries, optimize indexing, and analyze execution plans across database engines.
- Optimize high-volume transactional and large-scale analytical workloads.
- Conduct capacity planning and resolve performance bottlenecks across database, query, and infrastructure layers.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Implement and manage backup/recovery strategies, HA solutions, and DR setups.
- Perform regular backup validation, restoration testing, and support DR exercises to meet RTO/RPO targets.
Incident Management & Troubleshooting
- Investigate and resolve performance degradation, data inconsistencies, replication failures, and query inefficiencies.
- Participate in major incident response and root cause analysis (RCA), implementing preventive measures.
Cloud & Data Platform (AWS & Snowflake)
- Manage cloud-based database workloads (AWS RDS, EC2, Snowflake).
- Implement best practices for security, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Support data integration pipelines and collaborate on cloud architecture and deployments.
Monitoring, Automation & Tooling
- Maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging using CloudWatch, Grafana, Splunk.
- Develop automation scripts for maintenance, monitoring, housekeeping, and optimization tasks.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Enforce access controls, encryption, audit logging, and regulatory compliance.
- Support audits and provide documentation/evidence as needed.
Release & Deployment Support
- Support database changes and application releases, including schema updates, data migrations, version control, and rollback planning.
- Validate post-deployment changes and coordinate with application/infrastructure teams.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain database documentation, SOPs, runbooks, incident reports, and RCA.
- Drive improvements in performance, automation, and operational efficiency.
Operational Support
- Participate in after-hours support for maintenance windows, deployments, and critical incident response.

This role might be for you if you have:
- Strong training in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience as a Database Administrator/Engineer across multiple platforms (DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Experience supporting production or mission-critical systems, AWS database services (RDS, EC2), and Snowflake or similar data warehouse platforms.
- Strong SQL scripting skills, stored procedures, and query optimization across different databases.
- Solid understanding of database architecture (OLTP vs OLAP), indexing, execution plans, performance tuning, replication, and synchronization.
- Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools (Grafana, Splunk) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data accuracy skills; excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Proactive, self-driven team player with strong collaboration skills; able to work independently.
- Willing to support after-hours operations, including maintenance, deployments, and incident resolution.
