We are looking for a hands-on Buyer to manage procurement activities, supplier partnerships, material availability and inventory planning within a manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone with direct materials or raw-material purchasing experience who can balance cost, quality, inventory levels and supply continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end purchasing activities, including obtaining quotations, processing purchase requisitions and issuing purchase orders for materials and supplies.
- Monitor purchase order status, ageing and overdue orders to ensure timely fulfilment and compliance with procurement policies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local and overseas suppliers to secure reliable supply, competitive pricing and favourable terms.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate material replenishment to prevent stockouts and minimise excess or slow-moving inventory.
- Analyse purchasing data, supplier performance and material usage to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
- Support material planning initiatives using MRP, supplier pull systems, vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and historical usage data.
- Drive sourcing initiatives, supplier localisation and business continuity planning (BCP) projects to mitigate supply chain risks.
- Coordinate urgent shipments, track deliveries and expedite outstanding orders to resolve supply and receiving issues.
- Work closely with production, finance, engineering, quality and logistics teams to align material availability with operational requirements.
- Ensure purchased materials meet the required quality standards and specifications, working with suppliers and internal quality teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate procurement documentation and support internal controls, regulatory compliance and audit requirements.
- Participate in cross-functional and regional supply chain initiatives, including material transfers and new product introduction projects.
Who Should Apply?
- You enjoy hands-on buying and take ownership of the purchasing process, from supplier quotations and purchase orders to delivery and replenishment.
- You are commercially minded and comfortable balancing material availability, supplier performance, inventory costs and production needs.
- You thrive in a manufacturing environment where procurement accuracy, supply continuity and collaboration across departments are essential.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in purchasing, procurement or buying, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience in raw-material or direct-material procurement is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage suppliers and develop effective long-term supplier partnerships.
- Good understanding of inventory management, material planning, MRP and purchase order management.
- Experience with ERP systems and procurement data analysis is advantageous.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Able to communicate effectively with local and overseas suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Willingness to accommodate occasional evening or night calls to liaise with overseas stakeholders when required.
