JOB PURPOSE

Tau is a behaviour change business within Taylor's Education Group, working with leading enterprises across Southeast Asia. Most corporate learning is built to be delivered. Ours is built to increase the odds that people actually change how they work.

Every journey starts with a sparking experience that makes people want to work differently: inside organisations that excel at it, reflecting with coaches, or practising in realistic simulations. Then come months of practice in their real work, through the Tau app, until the new way holds.

We carry the backing of Taylor's, one of Southeast Asia's most established education groups: in education since 1969, with around 35,000 learners in institutions in 4 countries, including Taylor's University, ranked in the top 1% of universities globally (QS World University Rankings).

We are looking for a Behaviour Change Specialist to be the behavioural science authority behind every journey Tau runs, from the first client conversation (Define) to the final report on what changed and what did not (Debrief).

This person will join Tau's founding team as our first dedicated behavioural science hire. They will build the library of named, observable behaviours that Tau's methodology depends on, set how we measure whether behaviour has actually shifted, and build the evidence base for Tau's model.

Best suited to someone who wants to turn behavioural science into practice inside a zero-to-one business, alongside people who care about how change actually happens.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Build and maintain the behaviour library

  • Define, document and continuously refine Tau's library of named, observable behaviours, each specific enough that a colleague would notice it and small enough to demonstrate tomorrow.
  • Ground every behaviour in the research literature: what drives it, what blocks it, and what sustains practice over time.
  • Help Commercial and Product match client needs to behaviours in the library during Define and Diagnose, presenting clients with a recommended learning journey.
  • Translate research into design guidance for sparking experiences and embedding practice (nudges, microhabits, reflection, coaching), working with the Learning Design Manager and Tech Product Manager.

2. Own measurement and evidence

  • Design and maintain Tau's approach to baselines, behavioural indicators and pre/post evidence, so every Debrief can report credibly what changed and what did not.
  • Work with the Learning Systems Designer and Tech to capture practice and behavioural data through the platform, and turn it into insight.
  • Plan and run pilot cohort studies that test whether Tau's model of sparking experience plus embedding practice shifts behaviour, using sound baselines and comparisons where feasible; partner with academic collaborators where deeper rigour is needed.
  • Develop Tau's evidence base into usable case evidence for clients and the market.

3. Collaborate across functions

  • Work closely with the Learning Design and Product teams so design decisions reflect the behavioural evidence.
  • Support Commercial on key accounts, joining scoping conversations and Debriefs where credibility on behaviour change and evidence matters.
  • Partner with Tech to shape a platform built for practice, not for delivering content.

4. Stay at the frontier of the science

  • Keep researching the cutting edge of the science of learning and behaviour change, including habit formation, motivation and adult learning, and bring findings that hold up into Tau's library, design and measurement.
  • Critique new studies for quality and relevance, and separate evidence that holds up from fashionable claims.
  • Test promising findings in small experiments within Tau's journeys before adopting them more widely.
  • Use AI-enabled and agentic tools for literature review and analysis, actively extending research capacity and speed.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

We are more interested in trajectory and quality of thinking than in years served.

Required

  • Demonstrated experience applying behavioural science or behaviour change principles in real settings, including designing, evaluating or contributing to experimental or evaluation work.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, critique and reference academic research, evidenced through past work, writing or a portfolio.

Valued, not required

  • A degree in psychology, behavioural science, organisational development or a related field; equivalent applied experience will be considered.
  • Experience with corporate, adult or workplace behaviour change.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders or clients.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

Knowledge

  • Strong command of behavioural science: how habits form, why change fails to stick, and what sustains practice over time.
  • Working knowledge of measurement and evaluation: defining indicators, building baselines, and interpreting basic quantitative and qualitative data.

Skills

  • Reads, interprets and references research, and explains findings clearly and persuasively to clients, colleagues and facilitators.
  • Strong conceptual thinking: able to turn a loose organisational challenge into specific, observable behaviours.
  • Genuine, demonstrated fluency with AI-enabled and agentic tools, used actively to strengthen research and analysis.

Attributes and disposition

  • Credible and composed with senior client stakeholders, including on questions of evidence.
  • Strong individual contributor: proactive, independent, and able to get complex work done without heavy oversight.
  • Genuinely cares about what makes behaviour change stick, and is energised by raising that bar as the business scales.

REPORTING & STRUCTURE

  • Reports to: VP, Learning
  • Direct reports: none; individual contributor role
  • Works most closely with: Learning Design, Product, Commercial, Operations and Tech
  • Working pattern: Hybrid, combining working from home and in the office in Kuala Lumpur. Some regional travel may be required, especially for client-facing roles.

SUCCESS MEASURES

Success measures in the first year:

  • Behaviour library v1 is live, research-grounded, and used in Define and Diagnose conversations and in journey design.
  • A working measurement method is in place, and Debriefs show clients what changed and what did not.
  • Pilot studies produce credible evidence on whether Tau's model shifts behaviour, shared internally whether or not they favour Tau, and usable as client-facing case evidence where they do.
  • Design, Commercial and facilitators report that behavioural evidence has sharpened their work.
  • Clients can point to specific behaviours that have measurably shifted.
  • AI-enabled tools visibly extend research and analysis capacity, rather than being used for experimentation alone.

HOW WE HIRE

Our process takes about eight weeks, and we keep you informed at every step.

  • Round 1: a 45-minute video conversation with the hiring manager, then a short task that resembles the work. You are welcome to use AI tools; we will ask how you used them.
  • Round 2: three separate conversations in person on one day, including a discussion of your task.
  • What we look for: beyond the experience above, we will look most closely at how you turn research into specific, observable behaviours, how rigorously you judge evidence, and how clearly you explain it to non-specialists.
  • We will tell you the outcome, whichever way it goes.

WHY JOIN TAU

  • Meaning. Most corporate learning ends when the session does. Ours keeps going until people work differently. You will help design and deliver the moment someone decides to change, and the months of practice that make the change last.
  • Entrepreneurship. We are early, and most of what you will work on does not exist yet: the methods, the products, even how we run. You will test ideas quickly, learn from experts, use AI as a working tool, and change course when the evidence says so.
  • Reach. Work with clients and colleagues across Southeast Asia, with the backing and reach of Taylor's Education Group. Many roles bring the chance to travel, to our clients and to where we bring them to learn.
  • Growth. Work alongside exceptional people as part of a founding team and shape your own role as Tau grows. Take part in learning journeys inside and outside Tau. Access education benefits for you and your family at Taylor's institutions.
  • Flexibility. Hybrid working, from home and in the office, and flexible employee benefits through Taylor's Education Group.

We hire pioneers, not followers. Much of what we do has no playbook yet. If you would rather write one than follow one, we would like to hear from you!
