Financial Controller — Trading & Manufacturing PnL

We are looking for a hands-on, technically strong Financial Controller from a commodity trading background who can independently build, own, and reconcile trading and manufacturing P&Ls across multiple entities. The ideal candidate combines solid trading-house finance experience with modern analytical tooling (Excel, Python) to move beyond manual spreadsheet work toward scalable, automated reporting.

This is not a purely accounting-close role — it requires someone comfortable sitting close to the trading desk, understanding physical and derivative positions, and translating operational/trading activity into accurate management and statutory P&Ls.

Profile emphasis:

. Commodity trading house or merchant trading background (physical + paper trading exposure)

. Demonstrated experience building PnL from scratch, not just reviewing outputs

. Comfortable reconciling trading PnL (mark-to-market, realized/unrealized) against manufacturing/cost-accounting PnL

. Young, driven, technically modern — not tied to legacy manual processes

. Able to work across multiple jurisdictions and JV structures with different reporting standards

Scope of Role

1. P&L Ownership

. Build and maintain daily/monthly trading P&L for Singapore and Malaysia trading books

. Build and reconcile manufacturing P&L (cost of production, conversion margins, inventory valuation) where applicable

. Consolidate and reconcile P&L across global joint ventures (JVs), ensuring alignment with local books and group reporting standards

2. Reconciliation & Controls

. Reconcile trading PnL (front office) against back-office/accounting PnL

. Investigate and resolve PnL breaks between trading systems, treasury, and the general ledger

. Ensure inventory, hedge accounting, and mark-to-market positions are correctly reflected

3. Reporting & Analytics

. Partner with trading desks and JV finance teams to produce timely, accurate management reporting

. Automate recurring reconciliation and reporting processes using Excel (advanced) and Python

. Build dashboards/tools to reduce manual PnL assembly time and improve data integrity

4. Multi-Entity & JV Coordination

. Liaise with finance teams across Singapore, Malaysia, and JV partners to standardize PnL methodology

. Support statutory audit and group consolidation requirements across entities

. Ensure consistency of accounting treatment across trading and manufacturing operations

5. Stakeholder Engagement

. Work closely with traders, commercial teams, treasury, and risk to validate assumptions behind PnL

. Present PnL insights and variance analysis to senior management

Key Requirements

Experience

. ~5 years in a financial control / PnL reporting role within a commodity trading, merchant trading, or trading-adjacent manufacturing environment

. Proven track record building trading PnL from raw trade/position data (not just reviewing pre-built reports)

. Exposure to manufacturing or processing PnL (COGS, conversion costs, inventory costing) is a strong plus

. Experience working with or reconciling JV financials across jurisdictions

Technical Skills

. Advanced Excel (financial modeling, complex formulas, pivot-based reconciliation)

. Working proficiency in Python for data automation/reconciliation (pandas, basic scripting)

. Familiarity with trading/ETRM systems (e.g., Aspect, Endur, ComTrak, or similar) an advantage

. Understanding of derivatives, hedge accounting, and mark-to-market concepts

Other

. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional qualification (ACCA/CPA/CFA) preferred but not mandatory given experience level

. Strong analytical mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced trading environments

. Excellent communication skills to bridge finance and trading/commercial teams

. Regional mindset — able to manage complexity across Singapore, Malaysia, and JV entities

Location: Singapore (regional scope: Singapore, Malaysia, and Global JVs)

Experience Level: ~5 years (early/mid-career, high-growth track)
