Job Overview

The Senior Business Development Manager will provide strategic and operational support to ensure the successful implementation of GIA’s Market Development strategy in APAC region. This position will be responsible for promoting and creating demand for GIA’s services, identifying new business opportunities and developing long-term relationships with key stakeholders. This role is based in Hong Kong.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Explore and develop new business opportunities with a focus on regional Retailers, Luxury Maison’s, Wholesalers, and Manufacturers, supporting demand generation and cross‑pillar adoption across laboratory, education, and instruments.

• Promote GIA new services, expand client base and/ or strengthen existing key client relationships by increasing their use of GIA services through active participation in in-market activations, field visits, tradeshows and industry events.

• Drive sales and marketing activities to expand our brand presence, achieve revenue goals and business objectives.

• Collaborate with Laboratory, Education and Instrument divisions, and other cross-functional staff in addressing and resolving account issues to ensure timely and appropriate responses to clients.

• Conduct market research and provide market intelligence / insights for further sales strategies planning.

• Deliver GIA’s Retail Support Training to retail sales associates in the region.

• Participate actively in the departmental and cross-functional projects.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or above with minimum 10 years working experience in sales, training and business development, preferably in the diamond, jewelry and gems industry.

• A strong relationship with manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers in the region and familiar with the dynamics of key consumer markets in the region.

• Deep understanding and established network in the gems and jewelry industry in Asia.

• Proven track record in identifying, initiating and closing commercial deals.

• Demonstrates a strong client-centric mindset, building trust through responsiveness, follow-through, and balanced advocacy within organizational constraints.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Being able to speak other Asian languages is a plus.

• Collaborates effectively across diverse functions, aligning stakeholders and facilitating cooperation to support shared goals and timely outcomes.

• Applies structure, organization, and attention to detail to manage multiple concurrent workstreams while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

• Demonstrates strong working knowledge of CRM platforms and Microsoft 365 tools to track activity, manage information, and support performance visibility.

• Understands relevant market dynamics, client business models, and industry trends; applies this knowledge to support informed decision-making.

• Identifies issues, evaluates options, and applies practical judgement to resolve challenges or escalate appropriately in complex environments.

• Adapts effectively to changing priorities, ambiguity, and evolving business needs while maintaining composure and performance.

• Demonstrates personal accountability, reliability and adherence to organizational values, standards, and commitments.

• Able to frequent travel to and within the APAC region.

• Candidates with solid background and education in gemology; GIA education are preferred.

• Candidates with less experience will be considered as Market Development Manager.
