Job Purpose

To design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend applications and services using Java and relevant enterprise frameworks. The role is responsible for implementing business logic, APIs, database operations, system integrations, and data processing to support web and mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications and services using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
2. Translate business and functional requirements into backend architecture, service designs, business rules, and technical specifications.
3. Design, develop, document, and maintain RESTful APIs and services for multiple application modules.
4. Implement business logic, workflow processing, validation rules, transaction management, and exception handling.
5. Design and optimise relational database structures, SQL queries, indexes, and data access layers.
6. Implement secure authentication, authorisation, role-based access control, and API security mechanisms.
7. Integrate internal modules and external systems through APIs, messaging services, event-driven mechanisms, or other approved integration patterns.
8. Implement data exchange processes, including validation, transformation, reconciliation, retry mechanisms, error handling, and audit logging.
9. Support data migration activities, including source-to-target validation, data integrity checks, duplicate detection, exception handling, and migration reconciliation.
10. Design services capable of supporting high transaction volumes, concurrent users, large datasets, and scalable processing requirements.
11. Integrate AI-enabled services, search engines, matching engines, and recommendation services where required.
12. Implement application logging, monitoring, health checks, performance diagnostics, and operational troubleshooting.
13. Develop unit, integration, and API tests to validate application functionality and reliability.
14. Collaborate with frontend and mobile developers to establish API contracts, resolve integration issues, and manage API changes.
15. Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, secure development practices, and architectural guidelines.
16. Support deployment, configuration management, production troubleshooting, defect resolution, and technical handover.
17. Prepare technical documentation covering APIs, database structures, integration dependencies, and system behaviour.

Required Qualifications and Technical Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3-5 years of relevant backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and experience with Spring Boot or equivalent Java enterprise frameworks.
• Strong understanding of REST API design, service architecture, and backend application development.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, data modelling, query optimisation, and transaction management.
• Knowledge of API security, authentication, authorisation, encryption, and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or equivalent authentication standards.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and application deployment practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with large-scale enterprise systems and multi-module applications.
• Experience with data migration involving large datasets or legacy systems.
• Experience integrating with external agencies, identity providers, employer systems, and third-party services.
• Familiarity with messaging systems, asynchronous processing, API gateways, and distributed applications.
• Experience integrating AI services and data-driven applications.
• Experience with application monitoring, performance tuning, and high-availability systems.
