Nord Anglia International School, Hong Kong is looking for a Finance Manager. Reporting to the Principal and the Regional Finance Director, the candidate will be responsible for leading and managing an effective Finance function supporting four campuses and approximately 1,700 students, ensuring high-quality financial reporting, financial control, tax and statutory compliance, and effective financial support to the school.
The role is accountable for the overall performance, organisation and stability of the Finance function, including ensuring the team is appropriately structured, priorities are clearly defined, resources are used effectively and key deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
The role requires strong workload management, communication, team leadership, ownership and accountability, together with the ability to manage competing priorities across a complex multi-campus environment.
Responsibilities:
Act as the key Finance business partner to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team across all four campuses.
Develop a strong understanding of the school's operations and financial drivers and provide timely, practical financial advice to support decision-making.
Communicate financial information, risks and recommendations clearly to both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
Support school leadership in managing financial performance, resource allocation and cost efficiency.
Ensure efficient school fee collection and effective follow-up of outstanding debtors.
Maintain appropriate visibility across all four campuses and ensure Finance support is responsive to the needs of each campus.
Build effective working relationships with school and regional stakeholders and proactively communicate issues that may affect financial performance or service delivery.
Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process across all four campuses.
Prepare and present high-quality budget and forecast packs to school and regional management.
Produce monthly management accounts and quarterly statutory packs in accordance with the prescribed timetable.
Provide clear variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
Monitor budget execution and provide early warning of material variances.
Produce reports on pupil numbers, cash flow, capital expenditure, staffing and other KPIs as required.
Provide financial analysis and scenario modelling to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Plan and prioritise reporting and planning activities to ensure critical deadlines are met without compromising accuracy or quality.
Lead the Finance function supporting all four campuses and ensure Finance activities are delivered accurately, efficiently and on time.
Establish clear Finance processes, responsibilities and controls across the four campuses.
Ensure the team has clear priorities and that resources are allocated appropriately to meet operational and reporting requirements.
Ensure effective internal controls, including appropriate segregation of duties across cash, purchasing and accounts receivable.
Ensure Finance policies, procedures and Group requirements are consistently followed.
Maintain accounting records in accordance with statutory and Group requirements.
Ensure the school successfully completes its annual audit and meets all tax reporting and payment requirements.
Prepare financial information and supporting schedules required for audit, tax, banking and other external stakeholders.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with external auditors, tax advisers, banks and other relevant external parties.
Identify opportunities to improve Finance processes, efficiency and service quality.
Support the implementation of Group Finance systems, initiatives and process improvements.
Proactively identify capacity constraints, operational risks and competing priorities, and escalate where additional support or resources are required.
Take ownership of Finance issues through to resolution and ensure agreed actions are followed up and completed.
Undertake other appropriate duties as allocated by members of the school's leadership or regional management team.
Lead, motivate and develop the Finance team of eight supporting the four-campus operation.
Build a stable, collaborative and high-performing Finance team with clear roles, responsibilities and accountability.
Assess team capability and provide appropriate coaching, training and on-the-job development.
Ensure effective onboarding of new team members and a clear understanding of Finance processes and expectations.
Develop regular team routines and communication to improve collaboration, consistency and accountability.
Set clear performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
Develop cross-training and appropriate cover arrangements to improve operational resilience and reduce key-person dependency.
When recruitment is necessary, appoint high-calibre Finance employees who are capable, committed and aligned with the school's values.
The successful candidate should have:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline.
Relevant Finance management or supervisory experience.
Strong management accounting, budgeting, reporting and financial control experience.
Experience managing and developing Finance staff.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and organise workload effectively in a busy environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead a Finance function with multiple priorities and deadlines.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate financial matters clearly to non-Finance stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of issues, make sound decisions and follow actions through to completion.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan ahead, prioritise effectively and use time and resources efficiently.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple sites, teams or business units.
Desirable
Professional accountancy qualification or significant progress towards one.
Experience in a multi-site or complex organisation.
Experience implementing or improving Finance systems and processes.
