Reporting to the Director, Asia Market Analysis, the Advisor, Heavies Market Research supports the Singapore commodity trading group with timely, accurate, and forward-looking views of high-sulfur and low-sulfur fuel oil fundamentals, balances, flows, margins, and infrastructure across East of Suez and other key global markets. The role goes beyond routine market updates: it integrates market, operational, and commercial inputs into clear reads on supply and demand, the Hi-5 and scrubber spreads, crack and time-spread direction, and trade-relevant shifts across the residual fuel complex — from Middle East straight-run and cracked HSFO to Russian residue routing into Asia.

This is an experienced individual-contributor analyst role. The candidate will independently own HSFO and LSFO coverage and handle more complex, ambiguous questions that a foundational analyst would escalate. He/she will apply market-research methods in new or less-defined commercial contexts, connect the regional view to the global balance, and translate analysis into actionable recommendations that shape desk assumptions.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently own HSFO and LSFO coverage, developing insights and market outlooks on supply, demand, balances, and crack and spread direction across the product set.
  • Continuously improve recurring analysis and dashboards, adding new views and methods as market drivers evolve.
  • Integrate the regional HSFO and LSFO view to the global balance and reconcile flows against balance assumptions independently.
  • Translate refinery and operational changes into market implications and actionable, trade-relevant recommendations.
  • Handle non-routine and ambiguous questions independently, applying judgment where methods are not fully defined.
  • Partner with traders and peers across desks to pressure-test views and constructively challenge assumptions.
  • Track physical fuel oil flows using ship-tracking and internal data across key East-of-Suez and global swing regions.

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 4 or more years of relevant experience in market analysis, refining, fuel oil / residual products, ship-tracking, trading support, or related commercial analytics, with a track record of independent coverage ownership.
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working proficiency with Power BI, Python, or similar tools to organize data, automate analysis, and present insight.
  • Ability to apply market-research methods in new or complex commercial contexts and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Solid working knowledge of residue economics — coking, vacuum distillation, FCC/RFCC, and blending.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Prior fuel oil, residual products, bunker, ship-tracking, refining, or trade-flow experience in Asia or Middle East markets.
  • Familiarity with the residual fuel complex — Hi-5 and scrubber spreads, straight-run vs cracked HSFO, VGO, sulfur cutters, and the drivers behind bunker, power-generation, and refinery feedstock demand.
  • Experience building balances, dashboards, or trader-facing tools using Databricks, Python, Power BI, or Excel.
  • Experience using AI agents or automation tools to build dashboards, improve workflows, or scale output.
  • Strong stakeholder management across the Singapore, London, and Houston desks.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
