Job Description
DSO National Laboratories (DSO) is Singapore’s largest defence research and development (R&D) organisation, with the critical mission to develop technological solutions to sharpen the cutting edge of Singapore's national security. At DSO, you will develop more than just a career. This is where you will make a real impact and shape the future of defence across the spectrum of air, land, sea, space and cyberspace.
The Emerging Systems Division focuses research and development on a broad spectrum of capabilities that are critical to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) defence systems. These include antenna design and electromagnetics, as well as next-wave technologies in the areas of lasers and advanced materials.
People are DSO’s greatest asset. You will get to realise your career aspirations and develop your own niche either as a deep technical expert or a leader in the team. With frequent career dialogues and a robust training and development framework, we will provide you with the necessary development tools for you to reach your potential. You will also be recognised and rewarded through competitive remuneration packages and scholarship opportunities.
Modelling and Simulation Engineer
In This Role, You Will
- Develop high-fidelity structural modelling and simulation capabilities for structural platforms, with emphasis on reinforced composite systems.
- Perform static, fatigue, and damage/failure analyses of structural components and subsystems using commercial FE tools and custom constitutive modelling approaches.
- Independently develop, implement, and validate user subroutines for non-standard material behaviour, damage evolution, and interfacial failure modelling.
Job Requirements
- Master’s / PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across simulation, laboratory, and field- testing environments, and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in finite element modelling using commercial FE software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, or NASTRAN, particularly for nonlinear structural problems.
- Good understanding of constitutive modelling, including topics such as damage mechanics, cohesive zone modelling, and progressive damage analysis.
- Proven ability to independently develop, implement, and debug user subroutines for non-standard constitutive models with minimal supervision.
- Minimum Masters, preferably PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with strong foundation in solid mechanics.
- Experience in material model development, numerical implementation, and correlation of simulation results against experimental data will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge in composite mechanics and structural failure analysis is an added advantage.
