Job Description
The Automation Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated assembly lines, PLC control systems, and robotic equipment. The core objective is to ensure stable production line operation, minimize downtime, and continuously optimize equipment efficiency. The work environment typically involves integrated maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
Job Scope
1. Equipment Assembly & Installation
- Assemble, wire, and install high-speed automated equipment according to drawings and specifications, including PLC control cabinets, robotic systems, pneumatic systems, and conveyors
- Assemble robotic systems covering mechanical structures, electrical components, wiring harnesses, sensors, controllers, and electromechanical sub-assemblies
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly instructions, and BOMs
2. PLC Programming & Commissioning
- Write, calibrate, and update PLC programs (e.g., ladder logic) to maximize production efficiency
- Modify and optimize existing PLC programs, and troubleshoot I/O, sensor, and control logic faults
- Perform PLC program backups to ensure disaster recovery capability
3. Robotic System Operation & Programming
- Create new robot programs, edit existing programs, and set motion paths to optimize efficiency, safety, and quality
- Configure vision systems (e.g., Cognex) and adjust camera parameters
- Adjust or repair industrial robots and automated mechanical components to ensure efficient operation
4. Troubleshooting & Repair
- Diagnose and repair electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and software issues to minimize equipment downtime
- Connect laptops to equipment to identify faults and reload PLC and robot programs
- Test robotic assembly performance using instruments such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
5. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance plans for automated equipment
- Regularly inspect and calibrate electronic instruments, temperature controllers, load cells, etc.
- Maintain spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are available
6. Safety & Compliance
- Comply with IATF 16949, ISO standards, and safety policies, ensuring all electrical work conforms to NFPA 70E and local safety regulations
- Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and identify and report unsafe conditions
7. Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Accurately document all equipment maintenance activities and repair information
- Provide equipment improvement recommendations to the engineering team, and participate in continuous improvement activities such as Lean manufacturing and Kaizen
