WE ARE HIRING: BACKEND ENGINEER (JAVA / SPRING BOOT)

About the Role

We are looking for experienced Backend Engineers with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot to develop scalable, cloud-native microservices for digital banking and consumer lending platforms.

You will play a key role in modernising legacy enterprise applications, developing secure RESTful APIs, and integrating critical banking systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cloud-native microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Analyse and refactor legacy J2EE monolithic applications into modern, decoupled microservices.
• Design and develop secure, high-performance RESTful APIs using OpenAPI / Swagger.
• Integrate with downstream systems, including Credit Bureau, Credit Decisioning, Core Banking and Singpass MyInfo.
• Design and optimise relational databases and SQL queries.
• Implement event-driven processing using Apache Kafka.
• Develop automated unit and integration tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile development environment.

Key Requirements

• 3–6 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Java (Java 11 / 17 / 21) and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Good knowledge of MariaDB, PostgreSQL or Oracle, including SQL optimisation.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShift.
• Familiarity with JUnit 5, Mockito and Testcontainers.
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum / Kanban).

Good to Have

• Experience with legacy J2EE / Java EE technologies such as EJB, Servlets, SOAP / WSDL and WebSphere / WebLogic / JBoss.
• Banking, Financial Services or FinTech experience, particularly in consumer lending, credit cards or personal loans.
• Knowledge of microservices resilience patterns, including circuit breakers, idempotency and retry mechanisms.
• Familiarity with API contract testing and distributed tracing.
