Position Overview

The Staff Automation Development Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, development, integration and sustained performance of manufacturing automation solutions. The role translates complex factory requirements into secure, scalable and supportable systems that improve productivity, quality, operational resilience and speed of execution.

The successful candidate will lead cross-functional solution delivery, provide deep technical guidance, strengthen engineering standards, mentor engineers and drive modernization of legacy platforms across the manufacturing technology landscape.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Leadership and Solution Architecture
  • Lead end-to-end architecture and technical design for manufacturing automation, equipment integration and business-critical factory applications.
  • Act as a technical authority for complex, multi-system solutions spanning applications, databases, APIs, equipment interfaces and manufacturing platforms.
  • Define and promote reusable design patterns, coding standards, integration principles and engineering best practices.
  • Conduct design and code reviews, identify technical risks and guide teams towards simple, standard, resilient and maintainable solutions.
  • Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability, scalability, cybersecurity and supportability.
  • Solution Delivery and System Integration
  • Lead the full software development lifecycle, including requirements discovery, analysis, planning, design, development, qualification, deployment, documentation and transition to support.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, Operations and internal IT teams to convert business problems into effective technical solutions.
  • Design and develop applications and integration services using .NET technologies, Java, web technologies, databases and modern API patterns.
  • Integrate semiconductor manufacturing equipment and systems using SECS/GEM and other appropriate communication interfaces.
  • Ensure solutions meet agreed requirements for functionality, performance, availability, data integrity, security and operational readiness.
  • Manufacturing Automation and Operational Excellence
  • Develop and enhance automation capabilities that support factory execution, equipment connectivity, dispatching, process control and manufacturing visibility.
  • Provide technical leadership for integrations involving manufacturing systems such as MES, RTD, E3, fault detection and related factory platforms.
  • Analyze recurring operational issues, lead root-cause analysis and implement preventive, measurable and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Provide advanced Level 2 and Level 3 technical guidance to the 24 × 7 application support organization for critical production systems.
  • Improve observability, diagnostics, recovery procedures and operational documentation to reduce business disruption.
  • Modernization and Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and lead technical-debt reduction, platform refresh and application modernization opportunities.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical adoption where they deliver clear manufacturing or engineering value.
  • Drive simplification, standardization, reusability and cross-site alignment to reduce duplication and improve solution sustainability.
  • Contribute to automation roadmaps and technical investment priorities based on business value, risk and lifecycle considerations.
  • Engineering Capability and Collaboration
  • Mentor engineers in architecture, software design, development, troubleshooting and manufacturing-domain practices.
  • Facilitate technical knowledge sharing and strengthen team capability through coaching, documentation and structured reviews.
  • Influence stakeholders across functions and levels through clear technical communication, evidence-based recommendations and constructive challenge.
  • Coordinate effectively with vendors and global teams when solutions depend on external products, services or specialized expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5 to 8 years or more of relevant experience in software engineering, systems integration or manufacturing automation, with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Experience working in a highly integrated automation or manufacturing systems environment.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor back-end manufacturing or Surface Mount Technology is strongly preferred.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.
