JOB SUMMARY

The Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Science is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (PhD) in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering to support Sarawak’s strategic agenda of strengthening its advanced manufacturing ecosystem and fostering collaboration with international and local aerospace and high-technology industry partners.

The successful candidate must hold a relevant PhD from a recognised institution, with core expertise in robotics and mechatronics, including areas such as robotic system development and integration, robotic control, autonomous systems, embedded systems, and intelligent automation, with applications in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies. Practical experience in robotics programming and hardware–software integration will be highly valued.

Additional professional qualifications such as Professional Engineer (PEng), IPEA or APEC Engineer are highly desirable. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in higher education teaching, a strong research track record with impactful publications, proven success in securing research grants, and experience supervising postgraduate students. Experience in industry collaboration and technology transfer in robotics, mechatronics, and intelligent automation will be highly valued.

Key Responsibility Areas

The academic staff will normally make an overall superior contribution to the research, scholarship, teaching and administration activities of an organisational unit, including a large organisational unit, or interdisciplinary area and would normally have at least one portfolio area of outstanding attainment.

The academic staff will make a superior contribution to:

• the governance and collegial life inside and outside as relevant, of the institution;
• the discipline in either teaching and learning, research and scholarship and/or leadership, service and engagement (in accordance with the weighted performance in the portfolio) that has attained recognition normally at an international level in his or her discipline (in exceptional circumstances recognition at a national level may be considered);
• original and innovative advancement of scholarship, research and/or teaching in his or her discipline (in accordance with the weighted performance in the portfolio);
• fostering research, teaching and policy development in the academic discipline within the institution and within the community, professional, commercial and/or industrial sectors; and
• leadership in creating impact from academic expertise across commercialisation, industry engagement, community engagement, and/or student innovation.

This level will normally hold a qualification at the doctoral level and can demonstrate a record of academic excellence with outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or leadership. In exceptional circumstances equivalent professional experience may be considered.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• A relevant PhD from a recognised institution.
• Registration with a recognised professional engineering body such as Board of Engineers Malaysia is required.
• Additional professional qualifications such as PEng, IPEA, or APEC Engineer are highly desirable.
• Strong expertise in robotics and mechatronics, including areas such as robotic system development and integration, robotic control, autonomous systems, embedded systems, and intelligent automation, with applications in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies.
• Practical experience in robotics programming and hardware–software integration will be highly valued.
• Experience in industry collaboration and technology transfer in robotics, mechatronics, and intelligent automation will be highly valued.
• Significant teaching experience in higher education within a relevant discipline.
• Experience in establishing and developing successful partnerships between academia and industry is an advantage.
• A proven track record of substantial, high-quality research output with demonstrated impact and research leadership.
• A strong record of securing significant research grants.

Pay: RM13,000.00 - RM23,000.00 per month
