About the role

We are looking for passionate, professional and results-driven Certified Personal Trainers to join our fitness team.

As a Personal Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality coaching experience that helps members achieve their individual fitness goals while contributing to the growth and success of the club's Personal Training department.

This role goes beyond conducting training sessions. You will be expected to build strong client relationships, develop effective training programmes, deliver exceptional coaching, retain clients and actively contribute to PT revenue.

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their profession, continuously develops their knowledge and understands that successful personal training is built on results, relationships, consistency and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Personal Training / Fitness qualification is required.

  • Relevant certifications in areas such as strength & conditioning, sports performance, functional training, nutrition or specialised fitness disciplines are an advantage.

  • Current CPR / AED / First Aid certification is strongly preferred.

  • Additional internationally recognised fitness certifications are an advantage.

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Personal Trainer or Fitness Coach is preferred.

  • Fresh graduates or newly certified trainers with strong technical knowledge and the right attitude may be considered.

  • Proven ability to build and retain a PT client base is highly advantageous.

  • Experience working within a commercial gym or fitness club is preferred.

Personal Trainers are expected to maintain a schedule that accommodates client demand and peak club operating hours.

Job Responsibilities *

1. Personal training delivery

  • Conduct professional one-on-on, group personal training sessions and group classes.

  • Deliver safe, effective and engaging training sessions based on each client's goals, fitness level and individual requirements.

  • Assess clients' fitness levels, movement patterns, training history and objectives.

  • Develop appropriate training programmes based on client goals and progression.

  • Demonstrate and coach exercises using appropriate technique and clear instruction.

  • Provide appropriate modifications, progressions and regressions where required.

  • Monitor client performance and training quality throughout each session.

  • Ensure clients understand proper exercise execution, technique and training principles.

  • Maintain appropriate session structure, punctuality and professionalism.

  • Keep accurate records of client sessions, programmes and progress.

  • Adapt training programmes based on client performance, feedback and progress.

2. Client results & progress

The success of a Personal Trainer is ultimately measured by the progress and experience of their clients.

  • Establish clear and measurable goals with each client.

  • Conduct regular progress reviews and reassessments.

  • Track relevant performance indicators, measurements and training progress.

  • Communicate progress clearly and professionally to clients.

  • Adjust programmes when required to ensure continued progression.

  • Help clients develop sustainable exercise habits and improve their understanding of fitness.

  • Provide appropriate general guidance relating to exercise, recovery and healthy lifestyle habits within the scope of professional qualifications.

  • Identify barriers affecting client consistency and work with clients to overcome them.

  • Maintain high client satisfaction and retention.

3. Client relationship management

  • Build strong, professional and long-term relationships with clients.

  • Understand each client's individual goals, motivations, preferences and challenges.

  • Maintain regular communication with clients between sessions where appropriate.

  • Follow up with clients who miss sessions or become less engaged.

  • Encourage consistency and accountability.

  • Create a positive, welcoming and motivating training environment.

  • Handle client feedback professionally and escalate concerns when appropriate.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.

4. Personal training sales

Personal Trainers are expected to take an active role in growing their own client base.

  • Conduct PT consultations and fitness goal discussions with prospective clients.

  • Convert suitable members and prospects into Personal Training clients.

  • Promote Personal Training services professionally without compromising the member experience.

  • Identify opportunities to introduce PT to members who may benefit from coaching.

  • Conduct complimentary consultations, assessments or trial sessions where required by the club.

  • Follow up with prospective PT clients.

  • Maintain an active PT pipeline.

  • Generate leads through member engagement, referrals, networking, events, social media and other approved channels.

  • Build a strong personal reputation within the club and local fitness community.

  • Encourage existing clients to renew and continue their training programmes.

  • Identify appropriate opportunities for package upgrades or additional services.

5. Client retention

Client retention is a key responsibility of the Personal Trainer.

  • Deliver consistently high-quality sessions.

  • Monitor client attendance and engagement.

  • Proactively communicate with clients who are becoming inactive.

  • Conduct regular progress reviews.

  • Demonstrate measurable value throughout the client's training journey.

  • Develop long-term training plans where appropriate.

  • Encourage clients to renew their PT packages before their current package expires.

  • Maintain strong relationships that encourage long-term membership and PT retention.

  • Work with the Fitness Manager to address clients who are at risk of discontinuing PT.

6. Fitness assessments & programme design

  • Conduct appropriate client consultations and fitness assessments.

  • Gather relevant training history, goals and lifestyle information.

  • Develop structured programmes appropriate to the client's objectives.

  • Programme for objectives such as:

    • General fitness

    • Fat loss

    • Muscle gain

    • Strength development

    • Conditioning

    • Sports performance

    • Mobility and movement quality

    • Functional fitness

    • Running and endurance

    • Hybrid training

  • Review and adjust programmes based on client progress.

  • Maintain accurate programme and assessment records.

  • Ensure all programming remains within the trainer's professional scope and qualifications.

7. Member engagement & club presence

Personal Trainers are expected to contribute positively to the overall club environment.

  • Maintain an active and professional presence on the gym floor.

  • Engage appropriately with members and build rapport.

  • Assist members with basic equipment or exercise-related questions where appropriate.

  • Represent the club positively at all times.

  • Participate in club events, fitness challenges, workshops and community activities.

  • Support membership and PT promotional campaigns.

  • Participate in member engagement initiatives organised by management.

  • Contribute to creating a strong fitness community within the club.

8. Operational responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional training environment.

  • Return equipment to its designated location after use.

  • Ensure training areas remain organised and safe.

  • Report damaged or faulty equipment immediately.

  • Follow all club health, safety and operational procedures.

  • Follow gym rules and established SOPs.

  • Maintain punctuality for all scheduled sessions.

  • Manage the PT schedule responsibly.

  • Provide adequate notice regarding leave, schedule changes or client cancellations.

  • Complete required session records and administrative documentation.

  • Assist with maintaining overall club standards when required.

9. Team collaboration

  • Work closely with the Fitness Manager and wider fitness team.

  • Communicate effectively with Membership Consultants and Sales & Operations staff.

  • Accept and follow appropriate client handovers from the sales team.

  • Provide feedback on client progress and PT opportunities.

  • Share knowledge and best practices with other trainers.

  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions and development programmes.

  • Support junior trainers where appropriate.

  • Contribute to a positive, professional and collaborative team culture.

10. Professional development

We expect our Personal Trainers to continuously develop their knowledge and coaching ability.

  • Stay up to date with current training methodologies and industry practices.

  • Attend internal training and development sessions.

  • Pursue relevant certifications and continuing education.

  • Develop expertise in relevant areas of fitness and coaching.

  • Seek feedback from the Fitness Manager and senior coaches.

  • Continuously improve coaching, communication and programme-design skills.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a long-term career within the fitness industry.

Personal Trainer performance will be evaluated across client results, service quality, business performance and professionalism.
