Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation & Control Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Manufacturing Technology team at Seagate Technology Singapore. In this key engineering role, you will design, integrate, program, and commission automated assembly systems, robotic handling platforms, and vision inspection equipment to optimize high-volume media manufacturing throughput and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Architecture & PLC Design: Program and integrate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs - Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen-Bradley), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), motion control systems, and servo drives for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Robotics & Vision Integration: Design and deploy 6-axis articulated robots, SCARA robots, line-scan vision inspection tools, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) across cleanroom wafer/media manufacturing lines.
- System Troubleshooting & Optimization: Perform advanced diagnostic testing, root-cause failure analysis (RCFA), and process optimization to reduce equipment cycle time, minimize scrap rates, and boost Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Cross-Disciplinary System Integration: Collaborate with mechanical design engineers, software developers, and process teams to integrate machine automation with shop-floor execution systems (MES), SCADA, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) frameworks.
- Validation & Compliance: Prepare functional design specifications (FDS), factory acceptance test (FAT) / site acceptance test (SAT) protocols, equipment safety evaluations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive automation, robotics, or control systems engineering experience within high-volume electronics, semiconductor, precision engineering, or hard-disk drive manufacturing industries.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in PLC programming languages (IEC 61131-3: Ladder, Structured Text), industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, PROFINET, Modbus), robot programming (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and 2D/3D machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence).
- Software Tools: Hands-on command of CAD/EDA software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks), SCADA platforms, and Python/C++ for hardware interfacing.
- Problem-Solving & Leadership: Strong structured problem-solving skills (8D, DMAIC), analytical mindset, and ability to lead cross-functional equipment commissioning projects.
Pay: $6,500.00 - $11,500.00 per month
