Job Description – Senior Electrical Engineer (Large Scale PV)

Department: Engineering

Work Location: Kuala Lumpur

Reporting To: Engineering Manager

1. Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for electrical engineering and design support for large-scale solar PV and Floating Solar PV projects, with particular focus on DC systems, inverter systems, MV collection systems, plant electrical design and overall technical optimization.

The role will support project bidding, tender clarification, contract negotiation and pre-execution engineering until formal handover to the Project Team.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Review Employer’s Requirements, technical specifications, SLDs, contract documents and tender requirements.
• Develop and review electrical design concepts for utility-scale PV projects.
• Prepare and review:
• Single Line Diagrams;
• DC system design;
• Inverter and power station configuration;
• MV collection system;
• Cable sizing and routing;
• Transformer sizing;
• Auxiliary power systems;
• Earthing and lightning protection;
• SCADA / PPC electrical interfaces;
• Metering requirements.
• Support plant layout optimization together with civil and PV design teams.
• Perform or review electrical calculations, including voltage drop, cable sizing, short circuit and equipment sizing.
• Support review of energy yield assumptions and electrical losses where required.
• Develop technical specifications and support technical evaluation of major PV equipment.
• Participate in technical clarification with module, inverter, transformer, switchgear and cable suppliers.
• Prepare and review tender technical proposals, compliance matrices and technical deviations.
• Support cost optimization and value engineering during bidding.
• Identify design risks, interface issues and contractual obligations affecting the electrical scope.
• Support grid connection and substation interface coordination.
• Participate in Client and consultant technical meetings.
• Prepare a clear engineering handover package for awarded projects.

3. Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in large-scale solar PV engineering and design.
• Experience on projects of at least 50MW scale is required.
• Strong understanding of:
• PV DC systems;
• Inverters;
• MV collection systems;
• BESS;
• Transformers;
• MV switchgear;
• Cable systems;
• Earthing and lightning protection;
• SCADA / PPC interfaces.
• Able to prepare and review electrical design calculations and technical documents.
• Able to read and understand EPC contracts, Employer’s Requirements and technical specifications.
• Previous bidding and tendering experience is required.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and electrical engineering software.
• PVsyst, ETAP, DIgSILENT or similar software experience is an advantage.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Strong analytical, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Professional attitude and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

4. Preferred Experience

• Utility-scale solar PV above 50MW;
• Floating Solar PV;
• EPC tendering and project development;
• Grid-connected renewable energy projects;
• Malaysian solar projects and utility requirements. scale ground-mounted solar PV;
• Floating Solar PV;
• 33kV / 132kV or higher-voltage substations;
• EPC project environment;
• Malaysian renewable energy or TNB-related projects.
