Summary
We are looking for a Configuration & Asset Data Governance Lead to join a global health and security assistance organisation's IT Service Management team in Kuala Lumpur. You will own the rules for how the company records its IT systems and assets. That means setting the data standards for the configuration management database (the central register of every IT system, server and application, and how they connect). It also means checking that the data is accurate and holding outside IT vendors to account when it is not. Your job is to decide what good data looks like, measure it, and make sure the vendors deliver it. The role suits someone who has run configuration or asset management on ServiceNow in a large IT environment and is comfortable getting results through influence rather than authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the data standards for configuration items including what must be recorded, how, and by whom.
- Set lifecycle controls for IT assets and configuration data, from onboarding through to retirement.
- Monitor the quality of CMDB and asset data and report on completeness, accuracy and accountability.
- Review how ServiceNow Discovery is populating the register and raise gaps and errors with the right owners.
- Hold managed service providers and global IT vendors to the agreed data standards, and escalate when they are not met.
- Influence vendors and internal teams to correct poor data without having line authority over them.
- Make sure configuration data supports Change, Incident and Problem Management, so that decisions in those processes rest on reliable records.
- Work with analytics colleagues to turn data quality findings into reports that leaders can act on.
- Set guardrails for automated updates to the register and oversee vendor-led automation.
- Support Service Mapping, which shows which systems underpin which business services.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior IT stakeholders in clear, plain language.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 6 years in Configuration Management, Asset Management or IT Service Management.
- Hands-on experience with ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery in a production environment.
- A proven record of improving CMDB or asset data quality in large or complex IT environments.
- Experience defining and enforcing data quality standards and lifecycle controls.
- Understanding of how configuration data feeds Change, Incident and Problem Management.
- Experience holding managed service providers or global vendors to account without being their manager.
- Ability to influence and negotiate across teams without direct authority.
- ITIL Foundation certificate.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
- ServiceNow CMDB or Discovery certification.
- Experience with ServiceNow Service Mapping.
- Experience governing AI and automation in IT operations, including guardrails for automated updates.
- Experience partnering with analytics teams on data quality reporting.
