Sparkmate is a tribe of fearless makers solving the world’s most pressing problems with hard tech and industrial solutions. Our goal is to transform the $1.5T global steel industry and secure critical supply chains through the complete electrification of primary ironmaking, entirely eliminating the need for fossil fuels and coal-burning blast furnaces.

Utilizing a proprietary, low-temperature electrochemical process, we split raw iron ore directly into oxygen and >99.9% (3N+) ultra-pure solid iron—the critical raw material anchoring the future of EV motors, wind turbines, robotics, and defense. While incumbents spent 10 years and $450M to reach 1 tonne/day of continuous production, we built our 1-tonne/day continuous architecture from scratch in just 12 months for under $2M. We are now scaling from our Stage 1 pre-pilot to a 3–10 tonne/day autonomous factory in Hong Kong before deploying modular plants in the US and Europe. About the Role

We are looking to strengthen our team with a Robotics & Industrial Automation Engineer to architect, build, and deploy the world’s first autonomous, continuous metal-production factory floor.

What You'll Do

• Automate Heavy Material Handling: Design, program, and deploy industrial robotic arms, custom end-effectors, and automated gantry systems to continuously extract and process heavy plated materials from active chemical reactors on a 24/7 cycle.
• Build the Post-Processing Automation Line: Engineer and integrate the mechanical downstream line—incorporating high-pressure wash systems, variable-speed mechanical stripping, surface preparation rigs, controlled-atmosphere drying, and bulk material handling conveyors.
• Own Closed-Loop Factory Control (PLC / SCADA): Architect and program fault-tolerant industrial control systems regulating high-load fluid dynamics, automated feedstock dosing, dynamic fluid manifolds, auto-isolation safety loops, and thermal-camera-driven power throttling.
• Integrate with Sparkmate’s Software Ecosystem: Connect factory floor sensors, telemetry tracking, and actuator data directly into our in-house edge computing stack to enable fully autonomous, unmanned operations.
• Execute High-Velocity Prototyping: Transition rapidly from CAD concepts to machined hardware, wired electrical cabinets, and live industrial code within days—not months.

What We're Looking For

• Experience Level: 2–6+ years (or exceptional mechatronics/robotics builders with strong hardware proof of work)
• Full-Stack Mechatronics & Robotics Builder: Proven hands-on experience specifying, integrating, and programming industrial robot arms (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, UR), custom pneumatic/mechanical grippers, and automated multi-axis gantry or crane systems.
• Industrial Controls & PLC Mastery: Deep practical fluency with industrial PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control, electrical panel layout/wiring, P&IDs, and industrial protocols (such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, or OPC-UA).
• Software & Sensor Integration: Strong coding skills (Python, C++, or Structured Text) and direct experience integrating vision systems, thermal cameras, closed-loop process instrumentation, and custom SCADA interfaces.
• Harsh Environment Engineering: Proven ability to design rugged, corrosion-resistant automation hardware capable of surviving elevated temperatures, chemical exposure, abrasive slurries, and heavy continuous mechanical loads.
• Extreme Ownership: When an automated system encounters a fault, you don't wait for an outside vendor. You diagnose the control loop or adjust the hardware yourself to maximize uptime and keep production flowing.
