About Fenix
Fenix is a trading firm that builds its own trading technology and runs its own trading desks across a range of markets and asset classes. We are a small team, and engineers and traders work side by side.
The role
You will be embedded in our trading team as its dedicated engineer. The job is not building a single product. It is solving many problems of different sizes, helping traders use code effectively, and building the shared tools and foundations the desks need to grow into new products and markets.
Your success is measured by what the desks can do, not by how much code you write yourself. Success looks like traders building confidently on what you have put in place, and a codebase that keeps pace with the business.
What you will do
Work with traders to understand their problems and turn them into practical solutions, whether they want a tool built for them or help building it themselves
Build and own shared tooling across the trading workflow: reference and market data processing, pricing and strategy configuration, trade analysis, reporting and monitoring
Shape the desks' codebase into generic, configurable, well-tested components, and keep it in step with our trading platform as it evolves
Champion good engineering practice, including testing, reproducible environments, source control and code review, and make the right approach the easy one
Pair with and mentor traders at every level of coding experience
What we are looking for
Must have
Strong Python. You write code that other people can read, test and extend. You are comfortable withpackaging, virtual or conda environments, typing, testing (pytest or similar), pandas, and calling HTTP anddatabase APIs.
Real software engineering judgement: separating concerns, isolating side effects, designing configuration well, and deciding when to generalise and when not to. You have improved or migrated an existing messy codebasewithout stopping the people who depend on it.
Fluent git, and the patience to help others get there.
You enjoy working with non-engineers, and you have evidence of it: you have built internal tools for operations, analysts, researchers or traders and stayed close to the people who used them.
Clear written and spoken English. You can explain a technical trade-off to a trader in their terms, and a trader'sproblem to an engineer in theirs.
Curiosity about markets and how the trading actually works. Prior finance experience is not required.
Nice to have
Experience with ETFs, futures, or reference and market data pipelines.
Teaching, mentoring, technical writing, or open-source documentation work.
Experience reading or debugging C++ well enough to follow an interface or a bug across the boundary.
You use AI coding tools confidently and critically. They make you faster and your work better, and you hold what they produce to the same standard as your own code.
Experience:
Typically 2–6 years. We weigh the qualities above more heavily than years of experience. A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
