About Earthworm

Earthworm is a group of people who believes we can solve the big issues affecting people and nature today. We work in global supply chains impacting millions of people and places around the world to make the products we buy. We work on the ground, in forests, fields and factories, helping companies, farmers and communities find practical solutions together. And we know that, ultimately, trust and positive changes comes from people getting to work together, hands in the soil.

Your Role

This role will require frequent travel to project sites in remote areas across Sabah. You will manage and lead social and human rights projects across the palm oil sector in Sabah, through two key workstreams focused on Sabah landscapes and supply chain of EF members. You will work with upstream and midstream plantations and mills, brands, government agencies, and consulates to strengthen Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD), with a focus on child protection, responsible recruitment, worker protection, and access to remedy-to drive practical improvements across the palm oil supply chain.

In this role your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead and manage social and human rights projects across Sabah’s palm oil landscapes and supply chains, including project planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Lead human rights assessment including but not limited to child risk assessments across plantations, mills, and supply chain sites, translating findings into practical corrective and remediation measures.
  • Design and deliver training, tools, and capacity-building programmes for palm oil suppli-ers on child labour and protection, responsible recruitment, worker rights, and grievance and remedy mechanisms.
  • Establish and manage stakeholder relationships with plantations, mills, brands, govern-ment agencies, consulates, civil society, and other partners, including representing EF in meetings and collaborative platforms.
  • Develop and strengthen assessment methodologies, resources, guidance, and practical solutions to support responsible business and sourcing practices.
  • Draft high-quality reports and presentations and contribute to research and analysis on la-bour, human rights, and child rights issues.
  • Support project development and organisational growth, including proposal and business development, annual work planning, budgeting, and reporting.

Your Profile

You are a passionate professional with proven experience managing multiple projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, stakeholder coordination, and team supervision. You enjoy working with companies, government agencies, and other stakeholders to drive responsible sourc-ing practices, strengthen human rights performance, and deliver meaningful impact.

You have a strong track record in designing and delivering training and capacity-building programmes on labour and human rights topics, including child labour, child protection, forced labour, responsible recruitment, and workers' access to remedy. Experience in conducting labour and child rights risk assessments, particularly within plantation settings, and translating findings into practical improvements for worker welfare, child protection, and responsible sourcing practices would be highly valued.

To succeed in this role, you possess sound knowledge and practical experience applying labour, human rights, and sustainability frameworks, including Malaysian labour laws, UNCRC, UNGPs, ILO Conventions, OECD Guidelines, MSPO, RSPO, and relevant EU regulations to strengthen Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) across supply chains.

A collaborative and proactive individual, you demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently when required. You are also highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to produce high-quality presentations, reports, and analytical outputs.

Familiarity with MSPO and RSPO requirements is an added advantage. You are willing and able to travel frequently to remote locations across Sabah to support project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and field assessments.
