F&B Supervisor / Assistant Café Manager – Job Responsibilities
Food & Beverage Operations
- Supervise daily café/restaurant operations, including breakfast, lunch and other meal periods.
- Ensure smooth service and maintain hotel service standards.
- Coordinate staff deployment, duty rosters, break times and daily assignments.
- Conduct pre-shift briefings and communicate occupancy, groups, VIPs and special requirements.
- Monitor food presentation, buffet setup, cleanliness and replenishment.
- Handle guest feedback and complaints professionally and take corrective action.
- Coordinate closely with Kitchen, Front Office, Housekeeping, Sales and Maintenance.
- Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are followed.
- Monitor stock levels for beverages, operating equipment, cutlery, crockery, glassware and linen.
- Control wastage, breakage and unnecessary operating costs.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, food safety and hotel SOPs.
Events & Function Setup
- Coordinate and supervise hotel events such as meetings, seminars, training sessions, corporate functions, birthday parties, group meals and small social events.
- Review Banquet Event Orders (BEO)/Function Sheets and ensure all requirements are prepared before the event.
- Plan and supervise function-room setups, including theatre, classroom, U-shape, boardroom, cluster and banquet-style arrangements.
- Ensure tables, chairs, linen, stationery, water, signage and other event requirements are properly arranged.
- Coordinate basic AV requirements such as projector, screen, microphone, speakers and extension cables.
- Liaise with Sales/Event Coordinator regarding guest requirements, timing, menu, guaranteed attendance and last-minute changes.
- Coordinate with Kitchen on meal timing, coffee breaks, buffet setup and special dietary requirements.
- Conduct a final function-room inspection before guest arrival.
- Welcome event organizers and act as the operational contact during functions.
- Monitor events throughout the function and respond quickly to additional guest requirements.
- Supervise event teardown, equipment return and function-room cleanliness after completion.
- Report damages, missing equipment, guest feedback and operational issues to management.
Team Supervision & Administration
- Train and coach F&B service staff, including new employees and part-timers.
- Monitor grooming, attendance, punctuality and staff performance.
- Prepare or assist with staff schedules according to business levels and events.
- Maintain departmental checklists, event setup checklists and operational records.
- Assist the Café/F&B Manager with monthly inventory and stock control.
- Support cost-control initiatives while maintaining guest-service standards.
- Assist management with departmental reports, guest feedback and improvement plans.
- Take charge of the department in the absence of the Café/F&B Manager
Qualification & Requirements
- Minimum Diploma/Certificate in Hospitality Management, Food & Beverage Management, Hotel Management or related field. Candidates with SPM and strong relevant experience may also be considered.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in hotel F&B, café, restaurant or banquet operations, preferably in a supervisory role.
- Previous experience in a 3-star hotel or similar hospitality environment is an advantage.
- Experience in handling meetings, corporate events, group functions, buffet service and event/function-room setup.
- Good knowledge of different function setups such as theatre, classroom, U-shape, boardroom, cluster and banquet style.
- Basic knowledge of AV/event equipment, including projectors, screens, microphones and sound systems.
- Good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and sanitation standards.
- Able to supervise, train and motivate F&B service staff and part-timers.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with guests, event organizers and other hotel departments.
- Able to handle guest complaints and operational issues calmly and professionally.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and email; knowledge of POS systems is an advantage.
- Able to read and understand BEOs/function sheets, menus, event schedules and operational instructions.
- Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia; additional languages are an advantage.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, especially for event preparation and setup.
- Able to work independently and take charge of the café/F&B operation in the absence of the Manager.
- Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays, according to hotel operations and event schedules.
- Pleasant personality, well-groomed, service-oriented and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to assist with event setup and operational requirements when necessary.
Pay: RM2,200.00 - RM2,600.00 per month
