Understand the problems teams, scouts, and athletes face, and design the flows and wireframes that solve them: the thinking behind every Wingman screen.
The Role
Wingman is a small startup, and this is the role that decides how the product works. You take a problem, such as a scout who can't compare two drivers quickly or an athlete who doesn't understand why their rating moved, work out what is really going on, and design the flow and wireframes that solve it. Visual polish is done with our partner design agencies; you own the experience and the requirements they work from.
What you'll do
- Understand the product, its users and their problems well enough to explain them better than anyone else on the team.
- Do your own research: talk to team staff, scouts and athletes, study how the sport works, and look at what others have built.
- Turn problems into solutions: user flows, information architecture and wireframes for the web app and the athlete-focused mobile app.Propose, test and decide.
- Bring options with a recommendation, not questions waiting for an answer.
- Write clear requirements and brief our design agencies, review their work against those requirements, and keep the experience consistent.
- Work with the development side so what gets built matches what you designed.
Who will thrive here:
Someone independent. There is no design team to teach you and no one to hand you the answers: you find them. You are comfortable starting from an unclear problem, you enjoy learning a new domain quickly, and you come back with a solution and the reasoning behind it.
What we're looking for:
- A portfolio that shows how you solved problems (the research, the options you weighed, the flow you chose and why), not only finished screens.
- Strong user flows, information architecture and wireframing, in Figma or a similar tool.
- Experience running your own user research and turning it into decisions.
- Product sense: you can explain what matters to a user and what to build first.
- Clear writing: requirements an agency or the development side can act on without a meeting.
- Confidence to work independently and to defend a recommendation with evidence.
Nice to have:
- Experience briefing or working alongside an external design agency.
- Designing data-heavy products: dashboards, comparisons, analytics.
- Mobile experience design for iOS and Android.
- Interest in motorsport, sport or athlete performance.
