About TheraFriends Psychology
TheraFriends is a mental wellness hub based in Malaysia, bridging therapy, community and the workplace. Born from a simple conversation between three friends, we set out to make mental health care feel more human — accessible, relatable and part of everyday life.
We provide therapy, emotional wellbeing programmes and mental health training for individuals, students, couples and teams, with our work grounded in care, culture and connection. Our mission is simple: to build mental fitness, emotional resilience and everyday cultures of care — without the stigma.
As we expand our services and client partnerships, we are looking for a Counsellor & Mental Health Trainer/Facilitator to join us on a contract basis. This is a hybrid role for someone who is equally comfortable holding space in a one-to-one counselling session and facilitating a room of participants. You will support both the clinical and training arms of TheraFriends, working with individuals as well as our corporate, school and community partners.
Role Description
You will have two key areas of responsibility:
1. Counselling & Psychological Support
Provide professional mental health support across digital, video and face-to-face modalities.
2. Training, Facilitation & Psychoeducation
Develop and deliver engaging mental health programmes, workshops, talks and psychoeducational content for organisations, schools and communities.
The role will involve a combination of remote work and face-to-face engagements. Depending on the assignment, you may also be required to travel to client sites within the Klang Valley and other agreed locations.
Counselling & Psychological Support
- Provide professional counselling and psychological support in accordance with relevant ethical and professional standards.
- Provide asynchronous text-based support through designated digital mental healthcare platforms.
- Conduct chat-based, video and face-to-face counselling or therapy sessions, depending on the assigned service.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate case documentation, session notes and records.
- Recognise situations requiring additional support, referral or escalation and follow the appropriate clinical protocols.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical standards across all service modalities.
- Work collaboratively with the wider clinical team where continuity of care or case consultation is required.
Training, Facilitation & Psychoeducation
- Design, review and develop training curricula, workshop content, activities and psychoeducational materials for different client groups.
- Deliver mental health talks, webinars, workshops and psychoeducational programmes for corporate, school and community clients.
- Facilitate confidently across different formats and group sizes — from intimate workshops to larger webinars, assemblies and organisational events.
- Translate psychological concepts into practical, relatable and accessible learning experiences.
- Adapt content, language and facilitation style according to the audience, including employees, managers, students, educators and community groups.
- Facilitate interactive activities, discussions, case studies and experiential exercises.
- Represent TheraFriends professionally during client-facing engagements and contribute to a positive client and participant experience.
- Gather participant feedback and programme outcomes to improve future content and delivery.
- Support TheraFriends' broader mental health awareness, employee wellbeing and preventive mental health initiatives.
Professional Development & Collaboration
- Participate in clinical supervision, case discussions, team learning and professional development activities where required.
- Collaborate with fellow mental health professionals, facilitators and the broader TheraFriends team.
- Contribute ideas and professional input to strengthen programmes, training materials and service delivery.
- Support the development and refinement of mental health resources and educational content.
- Use appropriate digital and AI-enabled tools to support administrative work, research, content development and day-to-day workflows while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
About You
You enjoy both the depth of individual therapeutic work and the reach of mental health education and facilitation.
You are adaptable, grounded and professional, with the ability to connect with individuals as well as engage a room confidently.
You are also comfortable representing TheraFriends in front of clients and stakeholders and can translate psychological knowledge into practical, meaningful conversations that people can understand and apply.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology or another relevant mental health discipline.
- Registered, licensed or appropriately credentialed with a recognised professional body relevant to your discipline.
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical practice experience.
- Previous exposure to corporate, school, community or organisational settings.
- Experience designing and/or delivering workshops, training sessions, talks or psychoeducational programmes.
- Confident public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Comfortable facilitating both small-group sessions and larger audiences.
- Comfortable providing services across different modalities, including text-based, video and face-to-face sessions.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong content-development and presentation skills.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with a wider team.
- Able to manage professional responsibilities and deliverables within agreed timelines.
- Comfortable using digital platforms and incorporating AI tools appropriately into daily tasks and workflows.
- Able and willing to travel to client sites when required.
The following would be an advantage:
- HRD Corp Accredited Trainer status.
- Own professional indemnity insurance coverage relevant to their scope of practice.
- Experience facilitating corporate mental health, employee wellbeing or leadership programmes.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, schools or educational institutions.
- Experience delivering webinars, talks, workshops or psychoeducation to larger audiences of 50+ participants.
- Experience working with EAP, organisational wellbeing or digital mental health platforms.
- Experience developing training decks, facilitator guides, activities or participant materials.
- Additional training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches or specialised areas of practice.
Working Arrangements:
- Engagement: Independent Contractor
- Contract Duration: Initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and ongoing business/client requirements
- Expected Commitment: Approximately 2 days per week as a baseline, subject to client engagement requirements
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid
- Location: Remote, TheraFriends Psychology and/or client sites depending on assignment
- Travel: Required where applicable for client engagements and training delivery
- Standard Business Hours: 9:00 AM–6:00 PM (Malaysia time)
- Schedule: Working days may be flexible and agreed in advance, subject to service delivery, client schedules and response-time requirements
While the role offers flexibility in the arrangement of working days, selected assignments may require availability between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, particularly for corporate, school, training and client-facing engagements.
Advance scheduling will be provided where practicable for workshops, talks and other on-site engagements.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Enjoy balancing clinical practice with training, facilitation and preventive mental health work.
- Can shift comfortably between a one-to-one counselling conversation and facilitating a group.
- Enjoy creating content, rather than only delivering a prescribed script.
- Can make psychological concepts practical, engaging and easy to understand.
- Value autonomy while maintaining strong professional accountability.
- Are comfortable working in a growing environment where programmes and services continue to evolve.
- Are curious about how technology can support responsible and effective mental health service delivery.
- Enjoy working with different populations and adapting your approach accordingly.
- Want to contribute to a growing mental health practice and help expand the reach of quality mental health care and education.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
