About Our Client

Our client is an established bank looking to appoint a Director, Business Risk in Singapore. Sitting within the first line and embedded in the business, this role partners closely with front-office stakeholders to manage risks and develop practical solutions that support client activity. The scope spans operational risk, AML, business controls, cross-border activities and client onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise the business on day-to-day operational risks, AML matters and control requirements

• Support client onboarding and ongoing reviews, working with the front office to address KYC and due diligence issues

• Guide the business on cross-border requirements and controls governing client engagement and transactions

• Translate regulatory requirements and internal policies into practical business processes

• Identify control gaps across the client and transaction lifecycle and drive improvements

• Partner with second-line Compliance and Risk to resolve issues, assess business initiatives and support sound decisions

• Oversee remediation actions and provide clear reporting on emerging risks and control matters

• Support Japanese speaking business stakeholders by explaining policy requirements and coordinating the resolution of business risk issues

Requirements

• Relevant experience in business risk, internal controls or compliance advisory within private banking or wealth management

• Strong understanding of first-line risk management, AML/KYC, client onboarding and cross-border controls

• Ability to interpret policies and apply them to practical business situations

• Sound risk judgement and a constructive approach to supporting business needs

• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise and challenge senior business stakeholders

• Comfortable working closely with front-office teams and second-line control functions

• Proficiency in Japanese is required, as the role involves regular discussions in Japanese with business stakeholders on client onboarding, AML, cross-border activities and operational controls, including explaining policy requirements and resolving business risk issues
