QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Bechelor’s Degree in Physics

• Master Degree in Medical Physics

EXPERIENCED REQUIRED

• One year experience in Medical Physicist. Experience working in hospital based.

• Have interpersonal and communication skills.

• Caring, honest and responsible worker.

• Willingness to work on scheduled hours and anytime when called during weekends/public holidays/emergency.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Medical Physicist is a physics specialist who provides services which required the application of ionizing radiation in medicine. He or She is responsible for rendering professional care to radiotherapy treatment planning, Quality assurance of equipment and radiation safety.

MAIN DUTIES

Clinical

1.To assist in CT simulation procedure by providing general and practical approach for planning and treatment delivery.

2.To perform dose calculation for patient being prescribed for radiotherapy treatment.

3.To assist clinical oncologist in treatment planning for radiotherapy patient 4.Responsible for ensuring the treatment plan delivered to patient is accurate and scientifically valid.

5.Present (On-Set) during patient first treatment set-up and to verify the treatment plan is transferred correctly to patient treatment

Pet Scan

1.         Determined the total activity of radionuclide that needs to be ordered

2.         Plans, develops and delivers a quality assurance program for PET CT imaging equipment

3.         Test dosage evaluation instruments and survey meters to ensure they are operating properly

4.         Evaluates PET CT equipment requiring high precision, complex measurements and safe use of radiation.

5.         Audits procedures used with PET CT imaging equipment, for compliance with relevant legislation, standards and agreed good practice.

6.         Plays a role in the commissioning/ acceptance testing of machine

7.         Performs radiation dosimetry calculations, for the estimation of patient and staff doses as part of the clinical service.

8.         Provides the necessary expertise as required in the event of a major incident involving radiation.

9.         Monitor handling of radioactive materials to ensure that established procedures are followed.

10.       Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection policies and associated codes of practice and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.

11.       Monitor the area for any unknown spillage by using survey meter before and after procedure.

Administrative

1.To Assist in preparation of licensing forms and liaise with the licensing authorities Ministry of Health (MOH) for the purpose of renewing annual license. 2.Prepare reports pertaining to the Radiotherapy equipment’s, whenever required by the Radiation Oncologist and management.

3.Involve in sending the annual report on radiation protection to Bahagian Kawalselia Radiasi Perubatan

Equipment Maintenance

1.To supervise the maintenance and quality assurance for treatment machine and associated radiation device as required.

2.Responsible for acceptance testing, commissioning and beam data collection of new radiotherapy equipment before it can used clinically.

3.To establish and maintain quality assurance program to ensure safe functioning of simulator and treatment unit

4.To be responsible during breakdown and preventive maintenance

5.To maintain Radiotherapy equipment’s to the higher standard and according to requirement

6.To ensure that dosimetry equipment and radiation survey meters are calibrated as scheduled at recognized secondary standard dosimetry laboratory (SSDL) and fulfilled the requirement.

7.Preparing purchase proposal for necessary physics instrumentation and QA accessories including consumables for submission to Head of Services (HOS)

Staff Development

1.Involving in teaching and research whenever is required

2.Attending training Couse/ workshop whenever required.

Radiation Safety

1.Provide radiation protection service for the department

2.Perform the radiation survey and personnel monitoring at the treatment room 3.Design the facility in accordance with the radiation protections regulation.

4.To responsible in Radiation protection program.
