Job Purpose:

As a Commis Chef at The Wokstar, you will support the kitchen team in preparing and cooking dishes for all-day dining, breakfast, and à la carte service. You will assist senior chefs in daily operations, ensure consistent food quality, and maintain cleanliness and safety standards. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn and grow within a dynamic culinary environment.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

• Assist in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes across breakfast, all-day dining, and à la carte menus.
• Follow recipes and instructions from senior chefs to ensure consistency and quality.
• Prepare mise en place and maintain readiness for service.

Learning & Development

• Work under the guidance of Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Head Chef.
• Learn new culinary skills, cooking techniques, and presentation methods.
• Demonstrate initiative in improving knowledge and supporting kitchen innovation.

Operational Support

• Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies.
• Ensure proper use of kitchen tools and report any maintenance issues.
• Support smooth operations during peak service times.

Hygiene & Safety

• Adhere to all hygiene, food safety, and hotel policies.
• Keep workstations, equipment, and utensils clean and organized.
• Label and store ingredients properly to maintain freshness.

Teamwork

• Collaborate with colleagues across kitchen sections to ensure timely service.
• Provide support to team members during busy periods.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional work environment.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Certificate/Diploma in Culinary Arts is an advantage.
• Prior experience in a professional kitchen or internship is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills & Competencies

• Passion for cooking with willingness to learn.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.
• Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.

Other Requirements

• Flexibility to work shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Proficiency in English & Bahasa (additional languages are an advantage).

Pay: RM2,600.00 per month

Work Location: In person
