We are partnering with a leading technology-driven financial services organisation to hire a Site Reliability Engineer. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, platform engineering, and production operations, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex reliability challenges through automation and code.

You'll spend your time building internal tooling, improving platform reliability, reducing operational toil, and supporting critical production systems. This is a highly technical role with a strong focus on Linux, Python, observability, and infrastructure automation.

What You'll Do

• Design and build automation and operational tooling using Python.
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, and performance across production environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux and infrastructure issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response activities.
• Drive operational excellence by identifying and eliminating manual processes.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible.
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions using Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, and related tooling.
• Partner closely with software engineering teams to improve system reliability and deployment processes.
• Support and enhance Kubernetes-based infrastructure and platform services.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring issues.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Systems Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong Python scripting and automation experience.
• Experience supporting production systems in a mission-critical environment.
• Good understanding of Git-based development workflows.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability platforms including Prometheus and VictoriaMetrics.
• Experience participating in an on-call support rotation.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on reliability and automation.

Technical Skills

Linux

You should be comfortable:

• Troubleshooting issues directly on production Linux hosts.
• Investigating CPU, memory, I/O, network, and process-related issues.
• Understanding load averages, memory management, swap utilisation, and the /proc filesystem.
• Working with systemd services and troubleshooting service failures.
• Using standard Linux diagnostic and performance analysis tools.

Python

• Building automation, operational tooling, and self-service platforms.
• Writing production-quality scripts and integrations.
• Automating repetitive operational tasks and reducing manual effort.

Kubernetes

• Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core components.
• Experience troubleshooting pods, services, networking, and cluster-related issues.
• Exposure to production Kubernetes environments, preferably including on-premise deployments.
• Ability to debug and investigate platform-level issues rather than simply deploying applications.

Observability & Reliability

• Prometheus
• VictoriaMetrics
• Node Exporter
• Alerting and monitoring best practices
• Service reliability and operational excellence
• Incident management and post-mortem processes
