We are seeking an experienced Network Operations Engineer to support the onboarding of an enterprise network infrastructure estate of more than 450 devices into a ServiceNow Enterprise Service Management (ESM)platform.
The role focuses on hands-on network operations, network topology discovery, device onboarding and CMDB data validation. The successful candidate will work closely with the client's Network Operations team and ESM programme to ensure network assets, configuration items (CIs) and their relationships are accurately discovered, documented and maintained within ServiceNow.
This is a delivery-focused engineering role requiring practical network infrastructure knowledge, experience with ServiceNow Discovery and CMDB, and a strong commitment to data accuracy and repeatable onboarding processes.
Key Responsibilities
Execute network device discovery and onboarding using ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping across an estate of more than 450 network devices.
Apply hands-on network operations knowledge to validate discovered devices, network topology, connectivity and infrastructure dependencies.
Onboard network devices and related configuration items into ServiceNow, ensuring accurate asset attributes, classifications, relationships and mappings.
Validate, reconcile and remediate CMDB data to maintain completeness, accuracy and consistency across network assets and CI relationships.
Configure, maintain and troubleshoot ServiceNow Discovery patterns, probes, credentials and related discovery processes.
Investigate and resolve failed discovery jobs, missing network devices, inaccurate topology mappings and CMDB data-quality issues.
Collaborate with Network Operations and ESM stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure successful onboarding outcomes.
Document discovery configurations, onboarding procedures, troubleshooting steps and CMDB data standards.
Support data-quality governance, knowledge transfer and handover of repeatable discovery and onboarding processes to the permanent operations team.
Requirements
At least 5 years of relevant experience in network engineering, network operations or network infrastructure support.
Demonstrable hands-on experience in network operations, including network troubleshooting and infrastructure support.
Practical experience with network topology mapping, network device discovery and device onboarding.
Hands-on experience using ServiceNow Discovery to discover and onboard network devices into the CMDB.
Working knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB, including configuration items (CIs), CI relationships, data validation and reconciliation.
Strong networking fundamentals covering routing, switching, firewalls and network connectivity.
Experience troubleshooting network discovery failures, incomplete device records and data-quality discrepancies.
Strong analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and data accuracy.
Desired Skills
Hands-on experience with ServiceNow Service Mapping and network dependency mapping.
Knowledge of discovery patterns, probes, SNMP and credential configuration.
Scripting or automation experience using Python, PowerShell or similar tools for data validation and reconciliation.
Familiarity with ITIL practices, IT service management and CMDB data governance.
Experience supporting enterprise network environments and large-scale infrastructure onboarding.
