Pusat KOMAS 简介
Pusat KOMAS (Pusat Komunikasi Masyarakat) is a human rights organisation that was set up in 1993 to support marginalised grassroot communities and NGOs.
We advocate, conduct training and use creative and participatory forms of communication to advance Human Rights.
Our current programs include media and facilitation training, resource material production, citizenship and voter education, the FreedomFilmFest and anti-racism workshops.
Our vision is to empower the poor and marginalised community towards the attainment of human rights in Malaysia, through popular communications approaches.
In 2008, KOMAS won the European Grundtvig Award for its programme on Education for Non-discrimination.
In 2010, KOMAS was one of the only three organisations in Malaysia to receive the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights Grant Award by the European Commission.
History
Pusat KOMAS was setup in 1993 primarily to work with grassroot communities especially the indigenous peoples, urban poor, workers, students, and civil society organisations.
KOMAS has always emphasised on the human rights approach throughout the years of servicing the communication and organising needs of these pockets of community. The founders had used popular communications up until today to train the community members.
Popular communications (PC), was originally developed in Latin America by popular educators to organise farmers.
