JOB SUMMARY

The Overhead Crane & Mechanical Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of the overhead cranes used for waste handling at the WTE plant.

This role also provides technical support for preventive and corrective maintenance of other mechanical equipment in the plant to ensure overall operational continuity.

The position focuses on:

Overhead crane inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting

Support maintenance for mechanical auxiliary equipment

Ensuring safety, compliance, and minimal downtime

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Overhead Crane Maintenance (Primary Responsibility)

Perform preventive maintenance on overhead cranes, grab buckets, hoists, ropes, motors, brakes, and lifting mechanisms.
Conduct regular inspections, lubrication, adjustments, alignment, and functional tests.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-related faults affecting crane performance.
Carry out corrective maintenance and repair works to restore crane availability.
Monitor crane wear-and-tear and ensure timely servicing or replacement of critical parts.
Coordinate with OEM vendors and technical specialists for major repair works.
Ensure crane systems comply with DOSH regulations and internal safety standards.

2. Troubleshooting & Breakdown Response

Respond immediately to crane breakdowns to minimize plant downtime.
Perform systematic root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
Collaborate with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for complex failures.
Provide technical input during maintenance planning and shutdown activities.

3. Support Maintenance for Other Mechanical Equipment and Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical systems such as: conveyors, feeders, hydraulic systems, motors & gearboxes, valves & pumps auxiliary waste-handling equipment.

Ensure all mechanical tasks are executed according to SOP, safety standards, and engineering requirements.
Support inspections and reliability check for plant mechanical systems

4. Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping

Implement risk assessments, and safety procedures before performing maintenance works.
Ensure maintenance activities comply with DOSH, OSHA, and WTE safety guidelines.
Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and equipment hazards immediately.
Maintain clean, safe, and organized maintenance work areas.

5. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate maintenance reports, inspection forms, and equipment history records.
Report abnormalities, findings, and maintenance outcomes to the Head of Maintenance.
Assist in updating job plans, checklists, and maintenance procedures.
Track spare parts usage and notify when replenishment is required.

6. Continuous Improvement

Recommend improvements to enhance crane safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Support initiatives such as predictive maintenance, digital monitoring, and system upgrades.

Participate in technical studies to improve plant mechanical equipment performance.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

1. Education:
Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering fields.

2. Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in overhead crane maintenance and industrial mechanical maintenance.
Experience in power plant, WTE, manufacturing, or heavy machinery maintenance is an advantage.

3. Certifications (Preferred):

Crane Maintenance Certification
DOSH lifting operation / rigging certification
Safety-related training (first aid, confined space, working at height)

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

1. Technical Competencies

Strong knowledge of overhead cranes, hoists, braking systems, and lifting machinery.
Understanding of mechanical maintenance for rotating and static equipment.
Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
Familiarity with lifting safety, DOSH requirements, and plant maintenance standards.

2. Soft Skills

Good communication and teamwork with maintenance & operations teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Able to work under pressure during breakdowns or plant trips.
High commitment to safety and operational discipline.

3. Other Requirements

Fit to work in MSW waste environments, heights, and hot conditions.
Willing to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and on-call during emergencies.
Strong integrity, responsibility, and reliability.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: RM3,500.00 - RM5,500.00 per month
