Do we still have phone interview? Err guys we are living in a modern age where everything can be done via emails and so on right? Go and ask any millennials out there, most of them do not prefer phone interview. They even hardly call their friends and they prefer text over call. Do you hate phone interview? If yes, welcome to the club!

I found it very difficult than, let say, presentation or voice out ideas during a meeting. It's not comfortable as you'll get jumpy and nervous and you try to hide it with a giggle but it doesn't help at all. What if my voice is not clear and stutter? What if I can't hear that person's voice? What if I'm not ready and I don't have my resume with me? Oh my, there are so many things to consider.

Stop worrying guys, we'll get it fix together okay! Take note on these essential tips by the phone interview guru, Paul Bailo.

1. You had me at hello

The flow of the conversation is set from the beginning. Many people say that the first 15 seconds are the most important period. 15 seconds is not really that long, so you must ace on the opening lines. Get ready with your best opening lines right before you pick up the phone. Always get ready and gear up! Saying "Hello" is the worst way to go because the interviewer has to ascertain whether you're really you. You can try these opening lines:

You: Hello, this is Jane

Interviewer: Hi Jane, this is Mr Warren calling from Big Brand company.

You: Hi Mr Warren.  It's nice to meet you. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today.

2. Hit that power!

Be confident, that's important. Do you know that actually body language plays a huge part in being confident? For instance, if you're adopting "high power pose", your voice will become clear and sharp. It will make you more confident and less stressed and thus help you in getting the phone interview runs smoothly. Maybe you can try some good ol' box  breathing, a technique that require you to breathe, inhale for four seconds, pause for four seconds, exhale for four seconds and repeat the cycle.

3. Use noticeable cues

One way to ace the phone interview is by applying verbal cues. You can use one or two strong  verbal cues for example if you're in the  midst of crushing interview questions, you'll usually be speaking  for a longer span of time, right? Make it noticeable for the interviewer that you've finished  your response. Instead of saying "hmmm... yeah..." finish it with saying "And that was how I did it."

Don't get nervous guys. Keep your head up and always get ready with your solid weapon to excel that phone interview. The best advice to give is always on the phone so that you'll be comfortable and it can avoid you from being awkward to speak with anyone. Don't ever dare to use Adele Hello lyrics as an opening line okay.
