1. Job Summary
The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, tea, and other beverages while delivering exceptional customer service. The Barista maintains beverage quality standards, ensures cleanliness of the coffee station, handles cash transactions when required, and contributes to creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
2. Duties & Responsibilities
2.1 Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, tea, smoothies, and specialty drinks according to standard recipes.
- Ensure consistency in beverage taste, presentation, and quality.
- Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor brewing times, temperatures, and ingredient measurements.
- Prepare non-coffee beverages as requested by guests.
- Garnish and present beverages according to outlet standards.
2.2 Customer Service
- Welcome guests warmly and provide friendly, professional service.
- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Recommend beverages, pastries, desserts, and promotional items.
- Respond promptly to guest enquiries and special requests.
- Resolve guest complaints professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
- Build positive relationships with repeat customers.
2.3 Food Handling
- Prepare light food items, sandwiches, pastries, or desserts where applicable.
- Ensure proper food handling procedures are followed.
- Monitor freshness and expiry dates of ingredients.
- Replenish display items throughout operating hours.
2.4 Cashiering
- Process cash, credit card, QR, and electronic payments accurately.
- Issue receipts and maintain accurate transaction records.
- Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Report discrepancies immediately.
2.5 Hygiene & Sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness of coffee machines, grinders, utensils, and workstations.
- Clean tables, counters, and guest service areas regularly.
- Wash and sanitize equipment according to hygiene standards.
- Follow all food safety, HACCP, and personal hygiene requirements.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
2.6 Inventory Control
- Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, tea, cups, lids, and other supplies.
- Report low stock to the Supervisor.
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries.
- Minimize product wastage through proper portion control.
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out).
2.7 Equipment Maintenance
- Perform daily cleaning and basic maintenance of coffee equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Ensure equipment is switched off and secured after operation.
2.8 Health & Safety
- Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Wear appropriate uniform and personal protective equipment where required.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Report accidents, hazards, and unsafe conditions immediately.
2.9 Teamwork
- Support fellow team members during busy periods.
- Assist in training new Baristas when assigned.
- Attend departmental briefings and training sessions.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all departments.
2.10 Other Duties
- Assist with outlet opening and closing procedures.
- Participate in promotional activities and seasonal beverage launches.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the Outlet Supervisor, Outlet Manager, or Food & Beverage Manager.
