Job Description

Responsibilities

Basic Purpose / Accountabilities:


He/she is the company lead representative onboard the drilling rig during well execution. Oversee and coordinate offshore drilling and completion operations to deliver wells safely, efficiently, and cost effectively in accordance with the drilling program, regulatory requirements, and ConocoPhillips standards.


Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Direct day-to-day responsibility for offshore operational decisions that are within the scope of the approved drilling and completion programs
  • Enforce ConocoPhillips HSE MS, policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure safe operations. Lead toolbox talks, risk assessments, and Permit to Work compliance. Champions incident prevention, hazard identification, and management of change
  • Oversee implementation of ConocoPhillips emergency response plan, well control plan, operations bridging documents, and SIMOPS
  • Maintain readiness and competence for well control events, ensure compliance with well control certification and barrier management. Verify integrity of pressure control equipment (BOPs, choke/kill systems, well control instrumentation) and drills are conducted as planned.
  • Manage crew, materials, and service quality. Verify contractor performance against SLAs.
  • Manage the coordination of logistics, marine, and aviation for the drilling campaign. Oversees inventory control of well construction equipment, materials, and bulks
  • Oversee the issuance of daily Standing Instructions to Driller (SIDs)
  • Manage daily reporting requirements to internal and external stakeholders e.g. daily drilling report, logistics plan, lookahead plan, cost tracking, etc.
  • Liaise with onshore drilling engineers, contractors, and service companies for seamless operations.
  • Monitor drilling parameters and optimize performance to minimize Non-Productive Time (NPT) and Invisible Lost Time (ILT). Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and after-action reviews.
  • Perform investigations related to HSE and NPT incidents and implementation of effective corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensures potential pollution control problems are assessed and mitigation plans are understood by rig and third-party personnel.


Major Challenges:

  • Work in an environment with staff from different corporate and cultural backgrounds.
  • Implement Well Engineering systems and capabilities in a small and relatively lean organization, developing operational plans to achieve safe and efficient operations.
  • Provide significant technical experience, expertise, and capability to the Wells team to deliver a high degree of quality assurance for the execution work.
  • Implement HSE systems and procedures in drilling and completion operations to strive towards zero incidents.
  • Ensure high performance and efficiency during drilling by exploiting the learning curve and expertise of shareholders and proper planning of the operations.


Dimensions:

  • Supervisor to ConocoPhillips offshore staff and third-party contractors
  • Reporting to Drilling Superintendent and Senior Supervisor (Offshore)
  • Responsible for the safety of drilling rig operations with ~120 people on board each day.
  • Responsible to ensure well construction operations comply with legislative requirements, Company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Based offshore Sabah, rotation basis.
  • Potential requirement to be based in KL office for short term to work with Wells planning team, leading up to offshore execution.


HSE Roles:

  • Comply with HSE policies, Life Saving Rules, procedures, goals, and programs within the MBU HSE Management System.
  • Actively engage in and contribute to HSE communication and consultation processes.
  • Actively participate in HSE initiatives and programs that include but are not limited to, Safety Observations and HSE Trainings.
  • Support company sustainability development (SD) initiatives and other environmental policies and practices.


Requirements:

  • Highly regarded technical professional with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in Well Engineering, with at least half of it based offshore in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent
  • A detailed understanding of offshore well execution and operations is an essential requirement for this job.
  • Holder of IWCF Level 4, Supervisor Certificate for Subsea and Surface BOP Stack


Skills/Competencies Required:

  • Experienced in rig site supervision, contractor management and day-to-day drilling operations.
  • A proven safety leader with a track record in leading HSE performance
  • Experienced in managing major emergencies and operational issues related to drilling and completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be medically fit to work offshore.
  • Experienced in managing offshore simultaneous operations.
  • Experience in Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) or equivalent
  • Strong preference for Semi-submersible Tender Assist Drilling rig experience.
  • Preference for well testing and sand control completions experience.
