Role Description

I am seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join my research group at the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

The funded role is a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position. A GRA is a postgraduate student, in this case study at the PhD level, who is employed under a scientific research grant.

The role combines funded research responsibilities with postgraduate study. The candidate will be required to divide their time between carrying out assigned project research tasks and progressing with their own PhD studies.

As this position is supported by a scientific research grant, it cannot be undertaken on a part-time basis. Therefore, upon enrolling in the PhD program, the candidate will need to leave their existing full-time employment.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Sarawak, Malaysia, for a funded Engineering PhD research role with a stipend. The selected candidate will undertake a research project focused on developing an IoT LoRa communication prototype for a flash flood monitoring system.

The PhD research will also focus on optimising path loss models for wireless coverage prediction in IoT communication. The candidate will contribute to systems and electrical engineering development projects while collaborating with academic staff and industry partners.

Key responsibilities include experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and the publication of research findings. The role also involves participation in academic activities such as presentations and conferences organised by the university, as well as regular progress reporting to the funding provider.

Research Project:

Development of a machine learning-based path loss model for wireless monitoring in flash flood prediction.
