Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Well Intervention Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting well intervention operations to maximise well performance, restore production, maintain well integrity, and ensure safe and efficient execution. The role develops intervention programmes, provides engineering support during field operations, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and ensures compliance with company standards, client requirements, regulatory obligations, and HSE policies.
1) Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Operational Planning
· Develop well intervention programmes in accordance with client specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
· Review well history, production data, integrity status, and operational risks to determine suitable intervention solutions.
· Prepare engineering calculations, work programmes, operational procedures, and contingency plans.
· Coordinate intervention planning with production, drilling, well integrity, and Plug & Abandonment teams.
· Prepare technical work packs, risk assessments, and operational documentation.
Project Execution
· Monitor and support well intervention operations, including wireline, slickline, coiled tubing, hydraulic workover, well stimulation, fishing, and other remedial activities.
· Coordinate contractors, service providers, and offshore/onshore personnel during field execution.
· Monitor operational progress, costs, and project schedules.
· Provide technical guidance to resolve operational and engineering issues during intervention activities.
· Ensure accurate daily reporting, operational records, and project documentation.
Well Performance & Integrity
· Assess well performance and recommend intervention strategies to optimise production and restore well functionality.
· Support well integrity assessments and barrier verification activities during intervention operations.
· Evaluate post-intervention performance and recommend follow-up actions where required.
· Participate in root cause analysis and engineering investigations for well failures or production issues.
HSE & Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
· Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, risk assessments, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
· Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all intervention activities comply with HSE requirements.
· Support audits, technical assurance reviews, and regulatory inspections.
· Recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance well intervention processes and operational efficiency.
2) Authorities
· Recommend engineering solutions for well intervention activities within delegated authority.
· Recommend suspension of operations where personnel safety, environmental protection, or well integrity is at risk.
· Coordinate technical activities with contractors and service providers during intervention operations.
· Review engineering documentation, operational procedures, and technical reports within delegated authority.
· Escalate significant technical, operational, or HSE concerns to the Senior Well Intervention Engineer or Well Intervention Superintendent.
3) Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience:
· Minimum 5 years of experience in Well Intervention, Drilling, Completions, Production Engineering, or Well Integrity within the Oil & Gas industry.
· Experience planning and supporting well intervention operations.
· Experience with offshore and/or onshore intervention projects.
· Experience coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
· Knowledge of well intervention technologies, well integrity principles, and production optimisation.
Languages: Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Technical Knowledge:
· Well Intervention Engineering.
· Wireline, Slickline, Coiled Tubing, Hydraulic Workover, and Stimulation Operations.
· Well Integrity and Barrier Management.
· Well Performance Analysis and Production Optimisation.
· Risk Assessment, Management of Change (MOC), and Technical Assurance.
· Well Engineering Software and Technical Reporting.
· Applicable API, ISO, PETRONAS Technical Standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.
· Mandatory certifications may include BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS, H₂S Training, Offshore Medical Certificate, and other client-required certifications.
