Position Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for daily production management in the Malaysia plant, with primary focus on discrete manufacturing operations, mechanical assembly execution, production flow, process optimization and shopfloor people leadership. The role ensures production activities are performed safely, efficiently and with consistent quality, while supporting Lean / flow manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities
Production Management & Daily Execution
- Manage daily production activities according to production plan, customer demand and delivery requirements.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, tooling and other resources to ensure stable production output and on-time delivery.
- Monitor production progress, identify bottlenecks, and take timely corrective actions to reduce delay, rework and productivity loss.
- Drive performance on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost and inventory-related production indicators.
Mechanical Assembly & Discrete Manufacturing Operations
- Supervise mechanical assembly processes, including assembly sequence, workmanship, standard work, process discipline and final output quality.
- Ensure operators follow work instructions, technical drawings, quality checkpoints and standard operating procedures.
- Manage mixed-model or batch production flow where applicable, including work balancing, material readiness and work-in-process control.
- Work with ME, Quality, Maintenance, Planning and Supply Chain to resolve assembly, process, tooling, equipment or material issues.
EHS, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure production activities comply with company EHS requirements, local regulations and plant safety rules.
- Identify shopfloor safety risks, support preventive actions and encourage operators to participate in EHS improvement.
- Maintain product quality in assigned areas through process control, inspection discipline, defect containment and corrective actions.
- Support audit readiness, document compliance and corrective action closure related to production processes.
Lean / Flow Manufacturing & Process Optimization
- Apply Lean thinking and flow manufacturing concepts to improve efficiency, reduce waste and improve workplace organization.
- Lead or support improvement projects related to layout, material flow, cycle time, manpower efficiency, line balancing, standard work and visual management.
- Promote 5S, Gemba review, daily problem solving, root cause analysis and Kaizen activities on the shopfloor.
- Motivate the team to continuously improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost performance.
People Management & Team Development
- Lead, coach and motivate production team leaders and operators to achieve daily targets and long-term performance improvement.
- Assign responsibilities, set priorities, follow up execution and ensure accountability within the production team.
- Build a positive shopfloor culture focused on safety, teamwork, quality, discipline and continuous improvement.
- Support employee training, skill development, attendance management, performance feedback and capability improvement.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with Production Manager, Planning, Quality, ME, Maintenance, Supply Chain and EHS teams to support production stability and issue resolution.
- Provide clear production updates on output, manpower, quality, safety risks, bottlenecks and improvement actions in daily or weekly reviews.
- Complete other tasks assigned by the Production Manager.
Experience Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of production supervision or manufacturing management experience in a discrete manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly operations is required.
- Experience in production planning execution, production flow control, material coordination and resource optimization.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing, flow manufacturing, process optimization and continuous improvement projects is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing production teams, team leaders, operators or technicians in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in industrial equipment, engineered-to-order, assembly, sheet metal, fabrication or heavy manufacturing is an advantage.
- Experience in a multinational manufacturing company or new plant start-up environment is preferred.
Skill Requirements
- Strong understanding of discrete manufacturing processes, assembly operations, production flow, line balancing and work-in-process control.
- Good knowledge of mechanical assembly process, production drawings, work instructions, tooling, fixtures and process control.
- Solid understanding of Lean manufacturing tools such as 5S, visual management, standard work, waste elimination, Kaizen and root cause problem solving.
- Good capability in production KPI management, including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, efficiency and cost.
- Strong shopfloor leadership, people management, coaching and team motivation skills.
- Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with operators, engineers, supervisors and management.
- Hands-on, result-oriented, process-driven and able to set priorities clearly under production pressure.
- Basic English communication ability is preferred; Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin is an advantage for local and regional collaboration.
