Roles & Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Manager, Electrical Maintenance to lead the Electrical Maintenance Section and ensure the reliability, safety, and availability of electrical systems supporting power plant operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day maintenance activities, leading a team of engineers and technicians, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage all electrical maintenance activities, including corrective, preventive, predictive, and scheduled outage maintenance, ensuring plant reliability and operational continuity.
- Supervise, coach and develop engineers, supervisors and technicians to achieve safe, efficient and high-quality maintenance performance.
- Plan, coordinate and execute major plant outages, inspections and maintenance programmes in accordance with approved schedules.
- Develop, review and improve maintenance procedures, work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations and other departments to minimise equipment downtime and ensure smooth plant operations.
- Liaise with contractors, OEMs, vendors and external service providers for maintenance works, technical support and project execution.
- Manage the maintenance of key electrical equipment, including:
- Generators and auxiliary systems
- Generator Circuit Breakers (GCB)
- Power and auxiliary transformers
- Switchgears and Motor Control Centres (415V to 11kV)
- Electric motors
- UPS and battery systems
- Emergency Diesel Generators (EDG)
- Isolated and Non-Segregated Phase Busducts (IPB/NPB)
- Plan and manage annual maintenance budgets, monitor expenditure and optimise maintenance costs.
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure adequate stock levels of critical components to support plant reliability.
- Prepare technical specifications, evaluate technical proposals and support procurement activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Prepare maintenance reports, outage reports, incident investigations and technical documentation for performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Lead plant improvement initiatives and CAPEX projects related to electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory regulations, electrical safety requirements, SHEQ standards and company policies.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Management from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical (Power) Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university.
- Minimum Electrical Competent Engineer (JEK) 33kV certification issued by the Energy Commission.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance within the power generation, utilities, heavy industrial or similar industries, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Hands-on experience in the maintenance of high-voltage electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgears, motors, UPS systems, battery systems and associated plant electrical equipment.
- Good understanding of power plant operations, maintenance planning and outage management.
- Experience in maintenance budgeting, procurement processes and spare parts management.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices, reliability improvement and equipment lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with Malaysian statutory and regulatory requirements, including the Electricity Supply Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and other relevant industry standards.
- Possess Authorized Entrant and Standby Person (AESP) certification.
- Strong leadership, people management and coaching skills with the ability to lead high-performing maintenance teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Good command of both English and Bahasa Malaysia, both written and spoken.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented and able to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment.
