**This is a full-time independent contractor role. Candidates must be able to commit exclusively to this position and not engage in part-time or freelance work once hired.**
Are you a senior bookkeeper who takes ownership, thrives on problem-solving, and approaches challenges with a practical, “figure-it-out” mindset?
If you’re proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused, and enjoy streamlining workflows and contributing to SOPs while delivering excellent client service, this opportunity is built for you!
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
- Competitive compensation package tailored to your experience and expertise
- Discretionary year-end bonus
- 24 PTO credits per year (vacation, sick, holidays)
- Weekends off, and a daytime schedule — no night shift. About 4 hours of overlap with the US team, split into two ~2-hour blocks (roughly 5:00–7:00 AM and 8:00–10:00 AM PH time); the exact schedule is confirmed on hiring.
- Fully remote — direct Independent Contractor engagement, no BPO in between
- A clear growth path (Senior Bookkeeper I → Senior Bookkeeper II → QA / Team Lead) with defined salary bands and mid-year and annual reviews
- An SOP-driven team with a dedicated QA reviewer — you’ll have support and a second set of eyes, not blind solo work
CLIENT BACKGROUND
Our client, based in the Houston / Sugar Land, Texas area, provides bookkeeping, payroll, and fractional-CFO services to service-based businesses — construction and trades, real estate, professional services, and multi-entity owners. The firm holds advanced-certified QuickBooks expertise and runs a documented, SOP-driven, quality-reviewed process. The work includes genuine complexity: intercompany transactions across related entities, job costing, cleanups, and sales tax. The mission is clean books, financial clarity, and peace of mind for clients
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the full-cycle monthly close for a mixed book of ~25–30 light-to-moderate clients (fewer when complex) — categorize, reconcile every account to zero, and produce accurate financials
- Handle complex, multi-entity work: intercompany transactions (due-to / due-from), job costing, and construction/real-estate books.
- Run a self-review against the firm’s checklist before submitting each close for QA sign-off — deliver it clean the first time.
- Perform cleanup / catch-up projects as assgned.
- Record payroll from provider reports; prepare and file sales tax; prepare 1099s.
- Manage AP and AR, including aging review and follow-up.
- Follow the firm’s SOPs and daily workflow in QuickBooks Online and the Double platform; keep tasks and client questions current.
- Communicate proactively — post daily updates, flag blockers early, and respond within the workday.
- Take and apply feedback from the QA / Team Lead without repeating corrected errors.
- Protect client data and maintain confidentiality per firm policy
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA a plus.
- 5+ years of US bookkeeping, including independent full-cycle monthly close (not assist-only).
- QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor — ADVANCED (Level 2) certified, or willing to complete within 90 days.
- Proven multi-entity /intercompany bookkeeping — must be able to give a concrete example.
- Proven cleanup / catch-up experience.
- Demonstrated self-review discipline and a low rework rate — you catch and fix your own errors and apply feedback the first time.
- Consistent, proactive communication in clear written English.
- Able to own a mixed book of ~25–30 light-to-moderate clients (heavy/complex ones capped) and hit close deadlines reliably.
- Double (formerly Keeper) experience is a plus
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Personal computer (laptop or desktop).
- Reliable high-speed internet WITH a backup connection (e.g., mobile hotspot).
- Backup power (UPS or generator) to keep working through outages.
- A dedicated, private, distraction-free workspace that protects client confidentiality
DESCRIPTION OF IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Accountable & reliable — you own outcomes and deadlines, and hold yourself to them.
- Self-checking — you catch errors before submitting, and you apply feedback the first time without repeating it.
- Proactive & communicative — you take initiative, flag issues early, and keep people updated without being chased.
- Disciplined with process — you follow SOPs consistently and document your work.
- A practical problem-solver and team player — you figure things out and support the team.
