Job Description

Responsibilities

Company Description Spatialworks Sdn Bhd is a specialist provider of comprehensive geographical information system (GIS) and technology-driven environmental solutions for both public and private sector clients. The company is strongly client-focused, emphasizing cost-effective services and long-term support from project initiation through completion. Spatialworks continuously explores state-of-the-art technologies to improve environmental outcomes and deliver practical, innovative solutions. The team is composed of highly focused and dedicated professionals who work collaboratively to exceed client expectations in service quality and product delivery.

Role Description The GIS Field Surveyor is a full-time, on-site role based, responsible for collecting, verifying, and documenting spatial and environmental data in the field. This role involves conducting GPS and GIS-based surveys, mapping site features, and ensuring accurate data capture according to project specifications and safety standards. The GIS Field Surveyor will work closely with project managers and technical teams to plan survey activities, coordinate site access, and provide regular updates on progress and field conditions. Daily tasks include preparing survey equipment, recording observations, maintaining organized field notes, and supporting data transfer and basic data quality checks once back in the office. The role also includes collaborating with colleagues to resolve data discrepancies and providing input to improve survey methods and workflows.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of GIS concepts and field data collection methods, including GPS-based surveying and basic mapping workflows.
  • Ability to operate and maintain survey instruments and mobile data collection tools, with attention to accuracy, calibration, and equipment care.
  • Competence in data recording and documentation, including clear field notes, site sketches, and structured reporting of survey results.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify data inconsistencies, assess site conditions, and suggest practical solutions.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with project teams, site contacts, and stakeholders, and for reporting findings clearly.
  • Ability to work on-site in varying outdoor conditions, follow safety procedures, and manage time and tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant academic background in GIS, surveying, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) or environmental data projects is an advantage; possession of a valid driving license is beneficial for field work.
