We are looking for a hardworking, reliable, and detail-oriented Laundry Assistant to join our Housekeeping team. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing hotel linens, towels, uniforms, and guest laundry while ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and fabric care. Full training will be provided for candidates who are eager to learn and grow in the hospitality industry.
Key Responsibilities
Laundry Operations
- Sort soiled linens, towels, uniforms, and guest laundry according to fabric type, colour, washing requirements, and degree of soiling.
- Operate industrial washing machines, dryers, and laundry equipment in accordance with hotel Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Load and unload laundry machines safely while ensuring correct machine settings, load capacities, and chemical usage.
- Iron, press, fold, and package linens, uniforms, and guest laundry according to hotel quality standards.
- Ensure all cleaned items are neatly folded, properly stored, and prepared for distribution.
Quality Control
- Inspect all laundry items for stains, damage, tears, discolouration, missing buttons, or excessive wear before and after processing.
- Separate items requiring stain treatment, repair, alteration, or replacement and report them to the Laundry Supervisor.
- Ensure all guest laundry is processed accurately and returned on time without damage or loss.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation for all hotel linens and uniforms.
Inventory & Distribution
- Count, record, and monitor linen inventory to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Assist in distributing clean linens, towels, uniforms, and guest amenities to housekeeping pantries and designated departments.
- Support periodic linen stock counts and inventory audits.
- Report shortages, damaged items, or unusual inventory variances promptly.
Equipment & Workplace Safety
- Handle laundry detergents, chemicals, and cleaning agents safely in accordance with safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry room, equipment, and workstations.
- Perform routine cleaning of washing machines, dryers, lint filters, irons, and other laundry equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues promptly to the Supervisor or Engineering Department.
- Comply with all hotel health, safety, hygiene, sanitation, and fire safety regulations.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Laundry Supervisor or Management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum SPM or equivalent qualification. Candidates with PMR/PT3 and relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Previous experience in hotel laundry, commercial laundry, hospital laundry, or housekeeping is an advantage but not essential.
- On-the-job training will be provided for candidates without prior experience.
- Basic communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia. Ability to understand simple English instructions and safety labels is an added advantage.
- Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify stains, fabric damage, and quality issues.
- Reliable, responsible, and committed to maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Good time management skills with the ability to meet daily production targets.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift laundry bags or baskets (up to approximately 15–20 kg), and work comfortably in a warm laundry environment.
- Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Preferred Skills (Added Advantage)
- Experience operating industrial laundry machines, dryers, flatwork ironers, or steam presses.
- Knowledge of different fabric types, stain removal techniques, and textile care.
- Familiarity with hotel linen management and inventory control procedures.
- Understanding of chemical handling, workplace safety, and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
