Job Description – Retail Assistant

Position: Retail Assistant
Department: Retail Operations
Reports To: Store Supervisor / Outlet Head

Job Summary

The Retail Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining store presentation, handling cashier duties, and ensuring shelves are well-stocked and organized. The role requires assisting customers with book selections, promoting products, and supporting daily bookstore operations.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Recommend books, gifts, stationery, and other products based on customer needs.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve basic concerns promptly.

Sales & Cashiering

  • Process sales transactions accurately using the POS system.
  • Handle cash, credit card, e-wallet, and other payment methods.
  • Promote ongoing promotions, membership programs, and new arrivals.
  • Achieve sales targets and contribute to store performance.

Merchandising & Stock Management

  • Replenish stock on shelves and display areas.
  • Ensure books and products are arranged neatly and according to planograms.
  • Conduct stock counts and assist with inventory management.
  • Report low stock levels, damaged items, and discrepancies to supervisors.

Store Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the store at all times.
  • Assist in receiving and checking deliveries.
  • Support store events, promotions, and special sales activities.
  • Follow company SOPs, policies, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum SPM or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous retail experience is an advantage, preferably in bookstores or specialty retail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Able to work on weekends, public holidays, and shift schedules.
  • Basic computer and cashiering skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
