IT Technician – Job Role & Responsibilities
An IT Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting an organization's computer systems, networks, software, and IT equipment. The role ensures that employees have reliable technology and prompt technical assistance to minimize downtime and maintain business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-level and second-level technical support for hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices, and other IT equipment.
- Troubleshoot operating system, application, email, and connectivity problems.
- Set up and manage user accounts, passwords, and access permissions.
- Perform routine system maintenance, updates, patches, and antivirus checks.
- Monitor IT assets and maintain accurate inventory records for hardware and software.
- Support local area networks (LAN), Wi-Fi, and basic network infrastructure.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for repairs, warranties, and technical support.
- Assist with data backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Document technical issues, resolutions, and standard operating procedures.
- Support onboarding and offboarding activities by preparing or recovering IT equipment and system access.
- Ensure compliance with company IT policies, cybersecurity practices, and data protection requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in IT support, help desk, or technical services.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, networking concepts, and common business applications.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or Cisco are advantageous.
