Role: Production Manager
Position Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and managing all production operations within the wire harness manufacturing facility. This role ensures the achievement of production targets, product quality, cost efficiency, delivery performance, and workplace safety while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Manager will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to support business growth and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations Management
- Develop and execute production plans to meet customer demand, delivery schedules, and business objectives.
- Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and resources.
- Monitor production performance and implement actions to achieve productivity, quality, cost, and delivery targets.
- Ensure production capacity is aligned with forecasted customer requirements and business growth plans.
- Lead production scheduling and resource planning activities in collaboration with Planning and Supply Chain departments.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Production Supervisors, Executives, Technicians, Line Leaders, and Operators.
- Establish clear performance objectives and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Identify training needs and implement employee development programs to enhance technical and leadership capabilities.
- Support succession planning and talent development within the production organization.
Quality Management
- Ensure all products meet customer specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the Quality Department to reduce defects, customer complaints, rework, and scrap.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for major quality issues.
- Promote quality awareness and compliance throughout all production processes.
- Support customer audits, certification audits, and quality system requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and cost performance.
- Lead process optimization, workflow improvements, and manufacturing automation projects.
- Monitor production KPIs and implement improvement plans to achieve operational targets.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing process development activities.
Cost & Resource Management
- Manage departmental budgets and production-related expenditures.
- Monitor labor efficiency, material utilization, overtime, and operational costs.
- Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and delivery performance.
- Ensure effective inventory control and minimize production waste.
- Optimize equipment utilization and coordinate maintenance activities to reduce downtime.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all employees adhere to safety procedures.
- Investigate incidents and implement preventive measures to eliminate recurring risks.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and industry standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Maintenance, and Customer Service teams to support operational goals.
- Participate in customer meetings, business reviews, and production planning discussions.
- Support capacity planning, expansion projects, and strategic manufacturing initiatives.
- Provide regular operational reports and recommendations to senior management.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in wire harness, cable assembly, automotive, electronics, or related industries.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a Production Manager or senior manufacturing leadership role.
- Experience managing large production teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of wire harness manufacturing processes, assembly operations, and testing requirements.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, IPC standards, and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
