Procurement Engineer (Power Supply Manufacturing)
Job Summary
The Procurement Engineer is responsible for sourcing electronic components and raw materials required for power supply manufacturing. This role ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining high quality, reliability, and compliance with technical specifications and supply chain requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Sourcing & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard qualified suppliers for electronic components (e.g., semiconductors, transformers, PCB’s, metal, wire harness, etc).
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with global and local suppliers.
- Conduct supplier audits and qualification processes.
2. Technical Procurement Support
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to understand technical requirements and BOM (Bill of Materials).
- Sourcing an alternative component for cost reduction, obsolescence management, or risk mitigation.
- Support design-to-cost initiatives and value engineering activities.
3. Cost Management & Negotiation
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms to ensure optimal procurement value.
- Perform cost analysis, benchmarking, and cost breakdown evaluation.
- Drive continuous cost-saving initiatives (e.g., localization, dual sourcing).
4. Supply Chain & Risk Management
- Identify supply risks (e.g., shortages, long lead times) and implement mitigation strategies.
- Monitor market trends for key components (e.g., IC chips, MOSFETs, magnetics).
5. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure purchased materials meet technical specifications, regulatory standards, and quality requirements.
- Work with QA/QC teams to manage supplier quality issues and corrective actions.
- Support compliance with international standards (e.g., ISO, RoHS, REACH).
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and logistics teams.
- Coordinate in new product introduction (NPI) and production ramp-ups.
- Act as the central procurement contact, ensuring effective coordination with R&D.
- Support continuous improvement and manufacturing initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Mechanical) or related field.
Experience
- Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply or
- Procurement or sourcing experience, preferably in:
- Power supply / power electronics manufacturing
- EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services)
- Semiconductor or electronics components industry
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of electronic components (e.g., PCBs, ICs, transformers, passive components).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.
- Familiarity with power supply designs is an advantage.
Soft Skills
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Maintains a positive attitude and is comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
Systems & Tools
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
- Experience with global sourcing (China, Southeast Asia, etc.).
- Knowledge of semiconductor supply market trends.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing / plant-based environment with cross-functional collaboration.
- Required to travel to different manufacturing locations, existing suppliers, and potential new suppliers.
