Job Purpose
Carry out maintenance and operational tasks for hostel and building facilities by maintaining electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and civil systems to deliver safe, reliable, and conducive living and working environments in compliance with statutory requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Execute preventive and corrective maintenance for hostel and building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting, lifts, and civil structures.
2. Conduct routine inspections of hostel rooms, offices, and common areas to identify defects, wear, or abnormal conditions.
3. Carry out maintenance and basic repair of lighting systems, switchboards, water pumps, alarm systems, and utility equipment.
4. Perform minor civil works such as patching, painting, tiling, carpentry, and welding to maintain building condition and functionality.
5. Carry out troubleshooting activities for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing faults under authorised supervision.
6. Comply with Electricity Regulations 1994, OSHA 1994, FMA, and company safety policies during all maintenance activities.
7. Apply correct PPE usage and safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions, near misses, and equipment malfunctions promptly.
8. Coordinate maintenance requests, hostel upkeep activities, and contractor works under direction of the Supervisor.
9. Record maintenance activities, spare part usage, and inspection results accurately for audit and reference purposes.
10. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of workshops, tools, and work areas while practising responsible energy and water usage.
Qualification and Experience
1. Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Building Services Engineering (recognized by MQA) or any related field.
2. Wireman PW2/PW4 or Chargeman AO certification is an added advantage.
3. Minimum 1 year of experience in building/hostel/facility maintenance.
4. Fresh graduates with technical skills may be considered.
5. Basic understanding of MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems.
6. Familiar with building maintenance practices, tools, and equipment.
7. Knowledge of relevant laws (OSHA 1994, Electricity Regulations 1994, FMA, Uniform Building By-Laws) is an advantage.
8. Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
